Polk Audio Speakers

Yes it made a difference. The sound is more crisp and the bass is cleaner. I have no amp or sub as of yet.

In the package with the db651's there are plastic rings with multiple ears for mounting. I snapped off all ears. In the existing cut-out, I placed the baffle and then the plastic ring. Secured it will 6 screws. Then mount the speaker with the foam ring and grill.

Yes, trim the exposed foam from the baffle.

Mark..I am going to install my speakers next weekend. I got them out the box today. I am wondering why do I need to use the plastic rings? The plastic ring, almost seems like a spacer if needed. Why cant you just put the rubber gasket, then speaker and then grill? Also, how did you work in your baffles? I looked at them at a local stereo store and they are much thicker than I thought they would be...unless the ones from Crutchfield are much thinner. The baffles I looked at were the same brand as the one from Crutchfield.

Jeff, I only used the ring because the side panels are real thick foam/vinyl. I didn't want to see the speakers with the sunk in look. :smt101 Next year that is all being redone, so I am sure I won't use the baffles.

On the baffles, make a small cut in the bottom at the rear for the wires to pass thru. When you trim the baffle to the speaker, make the baffle about 1/4" larger than the speaker.

Off to the boat to go fishing!!

Mark...thanks for the info. I may not even mess with the baffles. It just seems like there is a lot of sound that would fill the radar arch...and the baffles seem like a way to fix that. But, I didn't like how thick they were. I dont think I will use the plastic ring....I think the holes in the speaker will match up with my existing holes.

Hope you had fun fishing:thumbsup:

Jeff,

I would not mess with the baffles either unless the speakers are going to be continuously wet from the inside. You will get better mids without distortion if the speaker has more enclosed surface area to vent.

I put the db speakers in this weekend..they look great and sound very nice. I am surprised I was getting any sound out of my old speaker, because the cone was in very bad shape. I used the screws that came with the speakers....they were some of the softest screws I have every used....I stripped 4 of the screw heads out....what pieces of crap. Anyone else have similar experinces with the screws that came with their speakers?

Thought I'd post that I finally got two of the 6.5's installed with the amp and 12" sub. Sounds GREAT. Sub hits hard and the 6.5's are very strong. I'm very impressed with WetSounds for sure.

I just installed the Polk db's, so I cant address the longevity, but they are a marine rated speaker, so I would assume they would hold up as well as any other marine rated speaker.

Not to hijack this thread, but...are the two covered holes on the inside top of the arch on my 340DA supposede to be used for additional speakers or do they serve some other purpose. I cannot tell from the comments in this thread exactly where people are adding the Polks. Thanks.
