Polk Audio Speakers

I just did a stock speaker replacement. One step at a time. New Amp and Sub-woofer planned for the future.

I put in the 6.5" coaxials earlier this year along with matching sub. I was very happy with them. I also upgraded the factory amp to a higher wattage Clarion version.
The subwoofer is supposed to be mounted in an enclosure withc would help the bass but it still sounds pretty good. I painted the grilles to better match the cockpit.
Most of the time just changing the speakers will amaze you.

PS I did have to sand the openings slightly with a sanding drum to open them up a bit. The Polk's were a hair larger in diameter. (And I did re seal the edges of the wood with some 5200!)

Great looking job! Good idea with the white paint.

Check out the Infinity Marine Spreakers on Crutchfields web site...Great reviews and they sound crisp..I think they were $199 a set and they fit great.

Interesting thread. I thought all 6.5 speakers were standard, as far as the cutout, and holes lining up. I had db's in my last boat, I loved them, but thought I would bump up to the MOMO's, but not if they are a nightmare to install. I have a 92 290 DA, I don't know what speakers come stock, but mine has two in the radar arch, two on the side walls, and a 10" sub on port side of cockpit. Quint, this question is aimed at you, as you have the same boat. Do you know how big the cutout is in the cockpit speakers? Did you put in the db's? Did they matchup with stock holes? thx

I hit a Circuit City store after work. Our local store reduced their speakers to 50% off, just today....so I picked up 2 pairs of the Polk DB651.....$50 per pair... I will use these to replace the cockpit speakers.

Thanks for the Tip - I picked up 2 pairs and an amp wiring kit. Now I need an amp.

Just put in 2 polk db 651's and an alpine mrf p300 5 ch. amp ($90 tweeter going out of business sale) this weekend under the shrinkwrap and it sounded very good (but needs some base) used the amp for the cockpit speakers only. Just bought a bazooka 6.5 inch for $50 at Dealer cost car audio.com and will put it under the backseat on my 92' 300da. (thanks quint 4 for your help) would 2 more 651 in the radar arch make that much of a difference? would probably need shallow mount.

Hey I see this post is back in conversation. If ya read this Bottomline I chose the Momo's because I believe they could handle a little more power and I liked the design of the grilles. Now I see they have new speakers that look even cooler! DAMN!

You have a little age on those speakers....go ahead and upgrade....get the new MOMO's:grin::grin:

Hey sure! Wanna buy my old ones???

I'm still thinking about breaking the sub off and using the old factory amp to just power that and using the new Clarion 4ch amp I bought for the 6.5's. Its just a matter of pulling a dedicated power and ground to the amp mounting location that keeps me from doing it. I was told I could probably tap into one of the mains that supply the fuse panel so I wouldn't HAVE to run a dedicated line all the way to the batteries but I don't wanna tax the items already running off of that such as lighting and pumps. Anyone have thoughts on this?

I guess I will keep my db's for the time being...I hope to install them in the next couple of weeks. I was going to order the MOMO's from Cruthfield (when they had for 69/pair) but called them and they were sold out.

Wow, some good deals on these speakers, especially over the JL 7.7's. Anyone know of deals going on anymore? CC and tweeter are gone now to my knowledge. I could use 3 pair probably!

I have been looking the Polk's as well. On a side note when you guys are replacing the stock speakers, are you running new speaker wire or using the existing wire?

I ran new wire - 14 Ga Monster Cable, and double for the subs (2 10" JL Audio w/350 watt amp). I did notice a difference when I doubled the wiring for the subs. I couldn't find anything bigger, so I ran two lines the exact same length.

I just added 5 Polk Audio Marine speakers and Subwoofer along with a 400 watt Hifonics amp and could not be happier! Although I'm not sure that the speaker wire helps more than the upgraded audio equipment, it can't hurt.

Oh, at the same time, added a 32" HD TV in the salon and a 26" HD TV on the deck w/ the KVH M1 12" sat dome - pix coming soon. Can't wait for the weather to warm up!
