I've bought the CSR "required" PC 7424, and I'm ready to begin the polishing ritual. I appreciate all the advice everyone has given under the Polishing and Waxing thread.

On my '05 340 DA, the non-skid on the gunwales and swim platform is different from the non-skid on the bow to the windscreen. The bow to windscreen non-skid is my question - how do you polish it with out filing up the small diamond shaped indentations with the polishing compound?

A lambs wool pad will do a pretty good job of applying and removing polish on non-skid that does not have a sand-like finish.

Best regards,
Frank

I polished mine a couple of months ago. No big deal. I just used the Porter Cable to put it on and buff it in, then a "Boat" towel (old bath towel) to take it off. The only issues I had was around the metal. The black from the metal was hard to get out of the cracks.

Is this Woody Wax Non-Skid the recommended product?

The Woody Wax web site lists quite a few other cool looking products.

When I shopped for my boat, the first thing I asked the broker was how bad the windshield frame was corroded. The one I bought had some corrosion, but not too bad. Someone told me to use Woody Wax on it. I did, and the corrosion has not progressed in 2 years on a 4 year old boat. It is like a liquid. For corrosion on metal you let it sit for a day before cleaning it off - it almost acts like rustoleum.

I read the instructions (it's been almost 2 years ago). I remember something about mixing it with water in a bucket and swabbing the non-skid deck, then letting it dry, then rinsing it off the next day. It will be very slippery when wet with Woody Wax, but then it'll be ok. The problem is, you're not actually buffing it with that procedure, so unless it's already really clean, it won't be any cleaner when you're done (at least not from elbow grease).

I just read the link. You spray the wax on your boat brush and brush it into the already wet deck, not mix it in a a bucket.

I use a good quality boat brush with the feathered ends, and only use it for waxing. First clean with your favorite boat cleaner and while still wet spray the brush directly a few times and brush onto the deck. This forms a very thin layer with the water and covers a large area (a few sprays covers my bow deck). Let dry and rinse with a spray nozzle, drag a towel over the area to spread out the water and let dry. For areas like stainless windshields just spray a small amount on to a damp towel and wipe the stainless, let dry and towel off to a shine.

I use this for the non-skid, decks, radar arch top & stainless. I am basically lazy and this is the easiest stuff I have found.

After Compounding the smooth areas, the diamond-cut non-skid was a mess. I used soft scrub on the center and port, then took a picture. The left side of the photo is the un-cleaned area (Boat's stbd).

My recommendation:

1) Compound deck as required
2) Soft Scrub with Bleach the Non-Skid
3) Wax all of it

I cannot imagine a good way to wheel that type of non skid. Frank's way sounds best but I would want to be starting with something thats not too far gone. Gettin the polish/wax outta that patter would be a bear.
I just got done wheelin my b#lls off on our non skid deck and walkways. Two seperate types of non skid, the orage peel looking kind and the sand grit kind. I can't believe how good it came out after never really having the desire to do it. I realize I'm wearing away the effectiveness of it but I'd rather see it shine and be able to wash off many simple stains. Just gotta remember the deck shoes! I plan on wasing it and trying to stay on top of it so all my work doesn't go down the drain!

Agreed. Mine is diamond cut. I found that taking a household brush and going diagonally one way for a while and then the other way for a while was the best method to clean out compound (dry brush) or dirt/stains (with Soft Scrub).

I've never waxed non skid in my life, sorta defeats the purpose from my take on things. To keep NS looking good, I scrub it with boat soap and boost with softscrub as needed.

Alwasy seems to look great.

For what its worth..............

For you guys that like the woodys wax, One of the fishing forums i belong to had a post on a woody wax alternative thats alot cheaper.

Its called Fluid Film. http://www.fluid-film.com/index.html

It can be used on the non skid just like woody wax and is also a good corrosion preventative for all metals, engines and tons of other uses.

Its supposedly what the navy uses and is even used on the space shuttle.

Ive picked some up at a local tractor supply company for $8 for a 12 oz spray can but havent used it yet. Im a little leary of using anything on the non skid but may give it a try soon.

You had referenced some windshield corrosion on a previous post - is that what I see at the base of your windshield? Has Woody Wax still stopped it from spreading? Foredeck looks good.

What you see on the front of my windshied is sun-faded/missing paint. Those areas don't have corrosion. The primer is exposed. The woody wax has stopped the progression of the corrosion completely on the windshield. I only wish the PO had known about it.

Do you just spray Woody Wax on there and lightly wipe it on - then let it sit overnight and then wipe the rest off or just spray it right on? Also how often do you spray it on? Every month?
