O.K., this seem strange so I thought I would get some consensus (or not). We were boating a few weekends ago and had a marina owner tell us that the best way to clean our black hulled boat and keep water spots off it was to use Pledge after washing it. Anyone?

search polishing or waxing. We've got tons of reading for you. I'd never use pledge.

I have used Pledge (as a quick "touch up") and Meguiar's Quik wax is much better and easier to use and will last a lot longer.

Thank you very much! I think I will go pick some Meguiar's Quik wax this evening!

I would use furniture polish for furniture, not a boat...but that's just me. My concern with regular, long term use would be yellowing on the gelcoat.

Meguiar's Quik wax is good but I found that it will get white and chalky and hard to remove if it gets wet during the application. I used it all the time on my previous black hulled 240SD.

I was amazed how well Quick Wax worked on my black hull. It was back breaking - not because of the product- but I had to lay on my back and side to do it from the sides of the slip. Did the whole hull in about 45 minutes. Looked great for quite a while too.

Growing up my dad always used pledge on his eisenglass and they always looked brand new, but never on the fiberglass. I have been using the serious shine for a while on everything, stuff is great, a little expensive but I love it.

Do not use pledge on your gel coat or your eisenglass, unless you want them to turn yellow over time.

If you have Eisengless, you can use 303 Protectorant. I have been using that product for the past 3 years on my 260DA's camper canvas and it works great.

If you have something other than Eisenglass, such as Stratoglass, use the product the manufacturer recommends or you could damage it.

Another vote here for the Serious Shine. Works on fiberglass, vinyl and regular glass.

That is wrong. Been using Pledge on my Eisenglass for many many years on several boats and it always looks good as new. Last boat I had we used it over 10 years with no ill effect.

A friend of mine used nothing but Pledge on his 290 Sea Ray. Sold it 12 years later with the gel coat still looking close to new.... no yellowing what so ever. This was when pledge was available in a spray bottle which made it really to apply. Unfortunately, I have not seen Pledge in spray bottles in years, only aerosel cans... Much harder to apply and more expensive!

I've used Prolong Waterless Wash & Shine on my black truck & car for years. They say you can used it on a dirty car but I don't. I use it to remove water spots and it really shines. They even warn you about how slippery it makes any surface you apply it to. I can do my entire truck in 15 minutes. I used it on my boat with great results and it just sprays on and wipes right off (no drying). I don't know how long it will last on a boat but it's so easily applied (and wiped off) that it can be done in no time.
