The first section of our dock is now under 2 feet of water. It was completely out of the water three weeks ago.

I know... and wish someone would talk to the weather gods... We just had another huge storm come thru, it stopped for maybe 10 minutes and now it's raining again. I think I heard last night, on the local news, it's rained almost every day since July 18th here! It seems longer!

I took a nasty slip on the dock I was at (it was almost level with the top of the water(on July 4th, it was a foot above the water and they've brought it in once since already), wooden and very greasy) on Sunday night, getting off my boat, and am now nursing bruises and pulled muscles, after my right foot slipped as I stepped on the dock, falling down, and whacking my left foot against the side of the dock as I went down between the dock and boat, catching myself, and ending up knocking the wind out of me when I landed on my back on the corner of the dock edge.

I am headed down later today I think to hook some chain to the dock and haul it in. Should be fun with 140 feet of dock to deal with.

Tell me about it. Normally, most grass around here is yellow and brown in July and August. This year, it is as green as it is in April.

Here's a picture of what our lovely river looks like most afternoons lately...

I wish the folks down south had some of our rain. I personally would like to share.

Actually, we have...
We're about 8" above normal for the year so far. Usually, our "normal" summer weather on the Fl gulf coast is sunny mornings, then clouding up late in the afternoon as the brief daily t-storms roll past. This summer has been mostly reversed-cloudy, with tropical downpours just about anytime during the day. We've had three crappy weekends in a row and I've been too busy to squeak out on the boat during the week. She hasn't left the dock since the 4th of July holiday, but this weekend we must, rain or shine...

Georgia and South Carolina need some especially in the Northern ends of both states, we could use some more in the Southern section but they really need it up there.

Here in the 1000 Island Region, we have yet to string together two days in a row without rain, or the threat of rain. Lo pressure systems have covered the entire region for most of the summer and ALL long weekends saw rain, wind and T-Storm warnings at some point.

This weekend is a monster weekend for our area. Poker Runs America is staging their largest POKER RUN of the season, we usually have over 50,000 spectators take in the action between Kingston and Prescott Ontario.

Weather forecast as of two minutes ago. 70% chance of rain and T-Storms all weeked.

Anyone interested in a great deal on a new 2008 330! LOL!!!

OMG... and it's still raining! I didn't get out this weekend... it said rain, so we planned other things, and then of course, we got 1.5 days of no rain... Check out the water here - they've had to put up temporary docking on top of their normal pier at the Westport dock! http://www.shipstore.com/SS/HTML/INFO/INFOServiceDockCam2.html

I went swimming Sat. night, the water at my parents house(Alburgh Village) is 20' up the shore from where it is normally at this time of year, and it's only 1.5' below flood stage! Their strip of beach is very small this year!

I ventured out yesterday for a few hours and promptly got caught in a thunderstorm.

I went to the boat yesterday as we were in NYC on Saturday. The CT river is up again. As I was stepping onto the boat a 30' log went floating by. Just one of many heading to the south. Haven't seen this much rain since living in the Seattle area.

On the local news tonite, they mentioned that a power boat was damaged that had hit a tree that was floating in the lake. There's a lot of debris due to all the high water, and flooded rivers, along with high levels of algae in the water from the runoff from farm fields.

The weekend is looking good! Well, alright, not as bad. (Yeah, I know, it's along ways off...) Unless a named storm appears on the horizon we are headed out Friday and headed North...

ack... I'm on call this weekend, and my gf's working on Sat. and it's her b'day on Sunday! I'd like to think we can get out on Sunday, we'll see, hopefully the weather will be good.

Just be careful of those loose trees floating just under the surface! Lake levels at a record height as of today!

THE LAKE CHAMPLAIN LAKE LEVEL AT THE KING STREET FERRY DOCK MEASURED
98.53 FEET THIS MORNING. THIS LEVEL IS THE NEW ALL TIME HIGH LEVEL
FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST. THIS BEATS THE PREVIOUS RECORD LEVEL OF
98.35 FEET SET BACK ON AUGUST 18TH AND 19TH OF 1976.

THIS RECORD LEVEL IS 3.34 FEET ABOVE THE AVERAGE DAILY LEVEL OF
95.19 FEET.

THIS LEVEL IS 3.46 FEET ABOVE THE MONTHLY AVERAGE AUGUST LEVEL OF
95.07 FEET.

THIS LEVEL IS 2.59 FEET ABOVE THE HISTORICAL YEARLY AVERAGE LEVEL
OF 95.94 FEET.

ALSO...THIS IS 2.65 FEET ABOVE THE SUMMER AVERAGE (JUNE THROUGH
AUGUST)LEVEL OF 95.88 FEET.

THE ALL TIME LOW LAKE LEVEL FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST IS 93.32 FEET ON
AUGUST 27TH OF 1949.

3' above normal average is a record? hhmm... well..best of luck to you all.. we sat out on the beach in the rain this weekend, enjoying every minute of it as it finally beat back the 100 degree days. We could use some more tho even with the corp keeping us a lil above normal.

It's not really an overall record. The overall record is 102.86 and we are only at 98.72. It is a record for August.

I think the last time it rained here... was in February..... just in case you wanted to know where to get away from the rain. :smt001

oooohh.. wait I was incorrect there was 8 one-hundredths of an inch in April at the dam.... I don't remember the ground being wet at my house (few miles away) since Feb.

We do normally get a little in March and April... but the summers are always bone dry.

My best guess would be rain again in October or November..... so if anyone needs to get rid of some water send it west

I have been through wet and dry summers both so I understand your frustrations. Down here when things are as wet as you describe our entire lake turns red from all the red clay we have here. And on several lakes around here we have had water levels so high that floating docks floated off their pilings. :wow: A few years back we went thru about the same situation you describe. My experience after living here in the South for seven years now is nothing (weather wise) is ever normal. There is either way too much rain or not enough. The last few years though we have been in a drought. It's still severe where we live. Last year we couldn't use the lake because of low lake levels. This year is much better as far as lake levels go but we are still in a severe drought.

Hope your rain ends soon and I hope our drought ends down here too.

In a normal boating season I would run between 50 and 75 hours on the Big Rideau and runs to Kingston and Ottawa. This year, less than 10 so far. Locks report a 30% decline in boat traffic, weeds are everywhere and the water at late spring levels. Think of the fuel savings, Waterside and Shipwreck bar bill reduction and less wear and tear.... NOT!!!!
Out cutting grass between the thunder showers again.
