or soon to be i hope. Looking at the searay 220 or 240 sundeck.

would i be better off getting it new or looking for good checked out (certified) used (2008 or so)?

also, what minimum HP should i get so that i can fill her with people and still reach plane. friend suggested over 330 hp minimum (guy at retail store says 260 more than enough)

thanks

There are alot of good buys on pre-owned right now. I drove several 240's before I settled on a 290. If you are going to have 4 or more people on board I would stay away from the 5.0. Get at least the 350 or bigger. Good luck!

Just a heads up the new 240SD is not the same boat as the old pre 2010 240SD. The new 240SD is more like the old 220SD.

This is correct. I think the old 240 has a better layout and has more room. There are a lot of great deals on used boats right now. Just be sure to get a marine survey on a used boat if you go that route.

Go with a used one. The depreciation you take on a new boat is staggering. Get one a couple of years old and get a good survey.

Its a buyers market right now so shop around.

From the other side of the aisle on the "used/new" 240 issue...there are great prices on used boats, but getting financing is sometimes not as easy as you would think, especially from private sellers. There are some situations where it good reasons exist to pay the dealers their due.

Some dealer still have 2008 and 2009 still instock with great deals.

Minimum should be 350 mag 300 hp bravoIII, that is what I have
and it works great

I think he may have made up his mind already.

Just a little time delay...

Went to the boat show this weekend, can't believe how the price of my boat (was 220SD is now the 240SD) has jumped - around $25K!?!?!
How can it be, in the ecomony we've had the past couple of years, that boat prices can increase so dramatically? Not really any new features to show for that huge increase.

If I were in the market today, it would be used for sure!

Fortunately PWC prices haven't gone up the last 9 years or so, so I snagged a pair at the show.

See the OP's signature :) :
