Ok, spent all day yesterday looking at marinas in Port Washington. Who here knows anything about the marinas there? The good, bad, ugly, smelly?

I stopped there for lunch and to refuel once on my way to Port Jefferson.....don't remember which marina, but it looked nice....

good luck in your search...

Port Washington, here I come. Just put a deposit on a slip today. The LI sound will never be the same.....

You'll be fine as long as you don't wear a hat when you show up!!! (They will probably let you in)

As far as the other folks at the marina... I think someone should call and warn them!

I'd guess you're in Brewers? Nice location. Great restaurants in Port Washington. Louie's Restaurant is my favorite!

I've crewed on many a racing sailing yacht in Manhasset Bay!

Not in Brewer's, although they were nice... all 3 or 4 of them. East, west, south... I'm not going to say which one i'm in for fear that they'll be warned. I'll say AFTER i'm in. Yeah Port Washington is great, lot's of great places to eat and shop, West Marine across the street, Ferry and Train to the city. Besides the LIE traffic, it should be great. I'm already counting the fuel savings by not having to boat 3 hours to get to this point on the Sound from where I was. The fun part begins, planning all of the destinations to visit next season.

TT, only kidding with my previous post... How much longer of a commute will you have just getting to the boat?

Actually it's a shorter distance than where I was up the Hudson. But the LIE traffic is a nightmare. It's taken as little as 30 min and up to 2 hours. Once we get all set, we'll figure out if the train or the ferry is an option with the dog. If I had a bigger dinghy, I would consider that as an option too. Joke

Can't go wrong at Brewers Capri. Right in off the sound and well protected. Lots of huge boats to gawk at with ferry service to restaurants.

The traffic between NYC and Port isn't a problem if you know the back roads! Stay off the LIE during the weekday evening rush hours and Sunday night back to NYC! 59th St Bridge, 21st or 31st up to the GCP, past LaGuardia Airport, Van Wyck north past the Whitestone Bridge, CI Parkway past the Throgs Neck Bridge and down to Northern Blvd, Northern Blvd east to Plandome Road, north up Plandome Road to Shore Road to Port. Reverse the trip back to NYC.

P.S. Slow it down around the racing sailboat fleets! They don't appreciate the waves...it slows them down and can cost them a race! ;)

P.P.S. Don't run into Execution Rock Lighthouse!

We stayed at one of the brewers in Conn. The place was huge ... HAd like east and west side. Then we dinked up the canal under some road bridge. we found a searay dealer up the canal. The Brewers we stayed at was tremendous u needed a bike to get to the pool from where the transient slips were located. Only down side is ur in the middle of no where... They had a van to take u to town... but i f u blink u pass it .. They were nice enough to take us to old Saybrook.
