Seems long to deliver a SDX 270.
Anyone with real experience on lead times for sport boats recently?
Outboard boats of all makes and types are hot right now (and into the foreseeable future)........I bet you could get an I/O one quicker (not that I would suggest it) Curious as to why you spec'd your boat with the smaller gearcase "Pro" Vrod over the standard (bigger prop, more lift) model.....expected top speed on the new boat? weight?
5600 pounds, 47-49 mph according to posted results.
I didn't have a choice on which one, that is all it comes with rigged from the factory. Not sure why they choose the pro version.
I had a Formula 350CBR built last year. They started 10/7/16 and finished on 12/2/16. SR has much greater throughput than Formula, but they also have a few more factories to support the extra capacity.
FWIW, I ordered a loaded '04 270 Sundeck 9/16/03, picked it up 1/4/04
Boat order timeframes can be all over the place. SR doesn't start producing a boat immediately when a dealer submits the order. They do "runs" of boats - trying to produce a bunch of the same model at a time. Sometimes you get lucky, submit an order, and it starts getting built the next week... sometimes not. Chances are, the boat will get produced sooner - the 4- 5 month timeframe is likely just a safe estimate.
Update - placed the order the last day of November. Was assigned a start date of January 22. Today was told that the start date has been moved to until late February. Not thrilled at all with them holding my $$ for 3 months before even starting and now potentially leaking into the start of the season.
Anybody have build time estimates for the L-Series yachts?
They had great results from Yacht Expo and the Ft. Laudersle boat show and L class deliveries are about 18 months out but they are typically later than quoted.
"Anybody have build time estimates for the L-Series yachts?"
Might want to get your order in soon. L-Series may not exist with the new owners.
I seriously doubt that any reasonable approach would include dropping a line where Sea Ray sold $50.0 mil worth of boats in a 3 day weekend.
Build date was moved up to Early February. I stopped at the factory today and saw my boat on the line. It has been capped, and about 80% of the interior was in.
Also took a tour of the entire facility and start to finish boat making. Really very impressive and the people there were very interested in making sure our tour and experience was memorable.
Congratulations on your purchase. Enjoy.
Say it ain't so Paul!
You sold the 270SLX and got an SDX OB?
Oh the humanity!
Seriously though, cool purchase, I hope it's everything you want it to be.
did you max out the option list?
I did decide to part with the SLX. It was a difficult decision. I am headed into the last curve before retirement and wanted to buy a new boat now so it will only be a few years old when I retire. I wanted an outboard this time around. If the SLX 280 was available now with outboard power I would have went that route.
The nice part of ordering is we did get to pick the exact equipment we wanted, so it is tailored to our needs and tastes.
Will I regret this move- time will tell. The outboard decision was a big one and drove the boat selection.
Paul, I've been watching this thread since you started it and kept having a recurring thought:
When you get your new boat, if you allow the build delays to remain in your mind it may diminish the joy you have with the new boat. My advice is this: When you get the new boat, don't look back at any disappointments, only look forward to the joy of ownership and the fun you have with it.
WHEN PAUL WHEN?
We need Pics. Lots and lots of pics...
My boat hasn't left the factory property yet. I would expect it to ship this week or next at the latest.
I have some pictures from the factory floor but I promised not to post them anywhere in exchange for them allowing me to take photos.... Not sure what is in the background that they might consider proprietary.
I did notice during my factory tour that it does not have the "Pro" version. It came with the normal flavor 300 with the 5.44 gear case.
Yes, agreed. Like all men, I already have forgotten the issues and am happy it is almost here....
