Anyone every had trouble while out on their boat ?

Do you have a gun on your boat ?

I have a CWP but rarely carry

I would thinks folks who stay out all night or sleep in their boats at the dock would

I also have a carry permit but really never carry. I've thought about while sleeping on the boat but haven't yet.

Years ago our area had late night thefts which concerns me but....

Excellent question / topic

I do not carry a gun onboard.

We have three kids, one that is very curious.

If I kept a gun onboard I would worry he would get at it and have a accident. Now lets say I had a trigger lock on the gun, kept the key somewhere else and the clip in yet another location. If a attacker came aboard I would not have the time to get the clip, gun, key, remove lock, and insert the clip.

My suggestion is to carry a fish whacker club / small bat

But aren't you worried about your little one whacking off one of your other kids.

.....or one pushing another overboard…or..or…or…on and on.

My fear is one of the kids would have a accident if I kept a gun onboard.

Yes. I admit it I do worry about my kids. My kids get away with far less then I did when I was a kid.

In 3rd grade I remember biking across town to the swimming hole with no one else then friends that were my age. No darn way would I let my daughter bike that far. When my son is that old he will not either. Not a chance.

Gun onboard? When we sleep on the hook, yes. Otherwise, no. Or, if we have any kids onboard, also no.

We do have a dog that is a real sweetie but if we were ever truly threatened I suspect he'd probably chew an agressor into little pieces of cheap hamburger. And he's got a very deep bark that by itself scares the stuffings out of most people, so I think it will never come to that. We feel pretty safe at night on the hook, even out alone all by ourselves.

Ah, but it was a different time back then when we were kids (well, when I was anyways) There's an internet email I've seen that talks about "remember when..." we lived in a much more innocent(naive) time. I used to ride my bike for miles as a young kid, and all that I'd say to my mom is, "I'm heading over to John's" and all she'd say is "ok, be home for dinner!" He lived like 3 miles away, and I was in 4th or 5th grade! Incredible. it's a different world now.

Same. In first grade, I'd ride my bike so far that cops had to bring me home to make it before dark. I'd go to the airport and watch the planes for hours.

I have never worried about my kids & guns - they were taught from the get go about them & that my guns were not toys - My son was shooting a 12 ga shotgun at age 8 & was as good a shot & safe as anyone (safer than some adults) but he went hunting from age 4 & carried a BB gun & had to treat it as a real gun - so he was well aware about them - same with my two girls - the wrath of Dad would not be spared if they messed with them - I kept them basically out of reach - but did not hide them from them - I never had a problem with other kids messing with them - again because my kids were trained that was not going to happen

I have never seen the sense of having a gun & a gun lock or shells somewhere else Mine are loaded & ready to go (like Presentation said) Guns should not be toys - & they should learn that as soon as their big enough (like not drinking out of the toilet) In ND you can have guns with shells in the magazine or clip in in your gun & a revolver, one is there ready to go, if you cock the hammer. You can have your guns in your vehicle, by your side, at all times & concealed if you have a permit & if you are not a mental defective or criminal, no one gets turned down (if you say personal protection)

Sure are lots of movies about crime & bad things happening on boats

It is now 100% legal to shoot someone here if they threaten you in your home (not sure about boats) ? you may have to use a little more restraint ??? But no jury would convict you up here if it was reasonable defense or aiding someone else

can you tell I hate punctuation

The only pirates in NJ are in the legislature. My boat and on-board cash is small potatoes to them.

Best regards,

Same here. IMO all kids should be taught proper respect and treatment of firearms whether you have one or not.... because sooner or later they'll be around one. Same concept as, you might not own a pool or boat, but you should teach your kids to swim anyway. It just may save their life.

However, when we know other kids are going to be onboard, we choose to acquiesce to unforseeable possibilities and leave the firearm off.

Wow, I just realized I used the word "acquiese" and think I spelled it right.

Not usually but I do listen to his radio program when I can. I didn't even think of it being an O'Reilly word but you're right it makes a good one :smt001

 Was it not a good topic back in Feburary of this year?

I do have one of them short little fish whacking bats, the Admiral bought it and gave it to me said it was for pirates. Everyone laughs when I tell them that.

Sorry for missing your post. Good memory. Yes, it was good back then also.

HAHA no big deal just givin ya a hard time!

I've actually been working on taking some gun saftey courses and purchasing my first gun probably a glock and will have the CCW as well and will probably carry while I'm boating.
