We'd love to take "Sweet Lips" on her first trip to PIB labor day from Cleveland. Does anyone know if we have any chance of securing a slip? Mooring really isn't an option as we don't have a gen.

Thanks!

From what i understand every weekend is booked solid for most marinas. The state/city docks don't do reservations but again fill up quickly...

Your better bet would be to call middle bass island state park marina and book NOW if available and take the sonny S across.

I'm not going to say its not possible but not probable...

I wouldn't rule out a mooring or the state docks (non-powered) until you know the weather. I put some friends onto a mooring this past wkd, and it was perfect. It might be cool enough at night to be comfortable.

Miller Marina is now the only marina that accepts reservations without a membership, but I can't imagine that they have availability at this point. A sometimes successful strategy is to take a mooring or a state dock and make a personal appearance at Miller to see if they have any last-minute cancelations.

There's always the public docks, but unless there's severe weather, you can expect 4-deep rafting on all piers. If you go that route, aim for B. They recently installed a major upgrade to their power infrastructure, which gives that pier a big advantage over A & C.

The Crew's Nest and Park Place Boat Club will both accept non-members if they have space, but again, I wouldn't expect that to be the case unless there's bad weather. Both clubs will also allow the rafting of non-members to a member boat, if you know any club members who will be there. (I'm afraid I can't help - that will be one of the few wkds that I don't plan to be up there)

I agree with Jason's approach - try MBI, but don't get your hopes up. There's also Kelleys as a 3rd option. You could likely raft at SeaWay, and enjoy KI for a while and take the Jet-X over to PIB for the day.

This mostly will depend on your ETA. Late Friday, probably no way. Obviously there are no guarantees, but Friday morning by 10am you could probably get a spot on the inside rafted off of someone.

If you have a choice, avoid being the third or fourth boat out on "B" Dock (center public dock). You will not have electricity.

Hey, when did the power upgrade go in? I had heard the rumors, but am always skeptical about major upgrades like that until they happen.

I think it happened before the season started, but I'm not sure. It was about mid season when I looked over from the small-boat extension of A (which had 15 amp extension cords everwhere) and noticed POWER POSTS on the extended finger on B. I looked at my friends and told them they chose the wrong pier!

That's good to know. I must be getting older as I avoid the public docks. I'll grab a ball or dockage at Miller's or Ladd's/PIBMarina/ParkPlace.

As a non-member you can call ParkPlace (VHF79) in the late afternoon and if they have dockage available they will accommodate. We did just that last Friday so we could check out The Menus again.

Everything I've heard about Middle Bass has been positive. I've never docked there since they built the new marina. My wife called the Crews Nest yesterday and got us a dock (8 am) but by afternoon they were full. It will be hard to get something at PIB proper.

Thanks for your help everyone! I'll see what I can throw together. There's always the Air Show at our home dock if I can't swing it:)

As to Labor Day weekend at PIB .......If this hurricane tracks the way it currently is......there will be plenty of docks available at PIB. We will have 3 days of rain starting on Friday.
