So we survived this Nor'easter and now getting ready for bottom paint . I got an email today from wholesale marine, this is on sale for $159/Gal
Has anyone used these water based antifouling paints? It seems like a good product on paper
Thanks

My next door neighbor is a commercial painter and he got me PPG's paint from their marine paint division for $40/gallon when buying a 5-gallon bucket. I have 2 years on this bottom paint & it still looks like new. If you have contacts in the business see if it's available...

Not sure if your pricing this

But you should be able to get a better price then $159....look around online and for Pettit factory rebates/coupons

I used the hydrocoat last year in fresh water and was very happy with it...actually it looks exactly the same as it did when it went in the water last year..... Two coats on bottom and three on water line.

Which hydrocoat? I use hydrocoat eco and is fantastic. All it takes in the spring is a half hour with an electric power washer. You can paint running gear with it too.

On sale now at Defender Spring sale

I rolled 2 coats of it on a friends 45 ft sailboat.
Applying it was like rolling water, it’s very fluid, has no smell and clean up was straight soap / water.
Boat spent 3 years in the water before being hauled again.
It was only used in the short CT summer in Long Island Sound.
Sat in-water over the winters.
After a normal power washing....we almost didn’t want to repaint it because, it looked perfect!

I’d switch myself but, not sure of the compatibility of what I’ve been using?

Good luck :)

I painted the bottom with Hydrocoat in the spring of 2014. Boat spends May-Oct in the brackish waters of the Metedeconk River here in NJ. Haven't painted since then. I will paint this spring, only b/c I feel my luck may be running out (?) But it looks as good as it did in any of the previous years and no growth. One key to success with ablative paint is to try and run the boat at least once a week at cruising speeds. Keeps the paint fresh. Sometimes we just go for a ride simply to "ablate some paint."

I've been a Hydrocoat user on three boats now, for the past 14 years. Ttry to keep the paint out of the sun as you're working with it in the pan. Sometimes it starts forming a skin on the surface which clumps up on the bottom as you apply.
