Personal liability insurance

We live in Canada and have what I refer to as "Get drunk in bar and say to much" insurance it covers me from slander law suite if I say something that I thought was true but turns out not to be, defending myself in a fight where I injure the person and divulge something that is confidential. Does anyone know if this type of insurance is available in US and what the cost is. Mine is part of home owner policy as an adder. I am asking because of a friend in US that wants coverage in this area but does not know what to ask for.

Yall beat me to it. First amendment makes libel / slander a every high bar. Our biggest problem is the FA protects those who should just STFU.
Also the 2nd amendment makes running your mouth in a bar a dangerous option.

My wife's employer offers discounts on a substantial personal liability group insurance policy. It was pretty cheap, and we got it for "wow shit happens" kind event that you just can't plan for. Like your kid getting into a fight and you get sued, or you swerve to miss a squirrel, hit ice, and take out a row of Bentleys.

Yes, it is an umbrella policy. Mine is about $600/year for $1M coverage. I need to raise the limits this year. I never really worried about slander/libel. I got it before we had a boat when my kids were younger and my responsibility. Never know when a stupid fight breaks out and an someone get seriously injured. Or when they started driving. I didn't want to lose my house if my young drivers have a lapse in judgement and injure of kill someone by accident. When we got back into boating, it is a no brainer. Bad shit can happen fast on the water and I want more than the $500K protection by boat policy offers.
