A buddy put this perforated vinyl on his side windows of his Hatteras. First time I had ever seen the stuff. I was looking for a way to dress up these geometric side windows that date the boat, so I gave a prototype a try on mine. I bought the Vvivid product which is cheaper/thinner than his. And the holes on mine are bigger, making it easier to see in up close. I'll try it for a while to see how I like it and if I do I'll replace it with his more sturdy stuff. It is self stick to the outside of the window.

Is it like window film or a static cling?

There is a woven polyester version of this fabric that comes in various colors. It is sold by % of UV it blocks and is sewable by conventional methods. After 30 years in the Florida sun and several bouts with the dermatologist's knife, I have a set of 90% panels that replace my clear strataglass panels on the STBD side of my helm seat, and several more 70% ones that I leave up when running the boat. A side benefit is that the boat is cooler with the panels up.

It's peel and stick thin vinyl. Not static cling. It sticks to the outside of the window. It says heat and sun enhance the adhesion. It's advertised as a deterrent for birds flying into their reflection. Claims 7-10 year life. Two $14 small rolls did that side window.

Where to buy?

I just bought from Amazon. Search for "perforated window film". You can then select the roll size you want. Vvivid product is just 3 mil thick and the holes are 50% of the surface area. You have to be careful applying because it will tear easy. 3M has a version that is 6 mil thick and the holes are 40% of the surface area. It's pretty rugged (my buddy gave me his scrap as a sample). They both make the white exterior version I used and black exterior version.

That looks great.

We have the windshield shade - boat came from FL and is a must down there. Keeps the dash from roasting out in the sun, too. We will only use it on really hot days and when we aren't there cause the Admiral thinks it's ugly. She wouldn't mind if it was black to make it look like tinted windows. I may paint ours, cause the white is showing it's age quite a bit.

Anyway, we'll done!
