An odd thing happened on lift out day....maybe the next day...can't remember for sure....doesn't really matter but......

After my boat was out of the water and on it's blocks.....either later that day...or the next day......another guy at my Club told me he saw some water seeping/coming out of where my swim platform support post attaches to the transom.

I never saw it so I don't know how much and he didn't really say. Just "some water".

I've looked many times inside and never seen any signs of water entry inside the boat through the transom...ANYWHERE. I had a marine place here inspect my transom a couple years ago and he said it looked really good...and sounded solid when he tapped all around it.

So what's up with this water? I shudder to even think of the possibility of a water logged transom.

Thoughts???????

Sounds like it could be water intrusion into the laminate of the transom. I think my old boat had plywood of some sort in there. I think Frank W would be able to tell you what lies beneath the Fiberglass of your transom. Good luck!

Agreed, I would have a surveyor check your transom if you are not sure how to tell. They will tap test and use a moisture meter to discover any issues. Worth the money now. Even if there is water in the transom, it is not necessarily the end of the world if the rest of the boat is in great condition. I would have the surveyor check the stringers at the same time...

I had the same scare last year. It turned out being water leaking out of the support tube. Since the ends of the tubes are just crimped and not sealed, water can enter the tubes and then slowly leak out after the boat is pulled out of the water. I had pulled the screws and tubes before I realized what it was.

Now there's something I hadn't thought of yet.....and certainly sounds a whole lot less scary than transom issues.

As I mentioned...I had a guy who rebuilds transoms beat all over mine the year before last and he was pretty impressed with the way mine looked and sounded.

But I may very well have it looked at again....just to satisfy myself.

Thanks guys.
