Passport Premiere extended service?

Passport Premiere - Looks Like a NO

Hi, I just purchased my first boat - a 2006 brand new (leftover) 205 Sport. As I was paying for the boat the finance manager offered this Extened Warranty plan you are all talking about. As info here is what I was offered:

5 year - $1350.00
6 year - $1600.00
6 year including wear items - $1900.00

I was leaning towards purchasing but after reading this forum I am now leaning against it and more towrds buying the Mercury Extended Warranty.

As I have not yet taken delivery of the boat, and won't until early or mid-april) I don't have any of the manuals and was wondering how long I have to buy the extended warranty from Mercury and about how much it would cost.

Any other helpful advice you can give a new Sea Ray owner would be great!

Thanks Everyone.

I was just quoted a price of over $7200 for the premier warranty with generator, assessory and electronics package on a 350 sundancer. Does ayone know how, if at all, flexible the pricing is on these plans from marine max?

Passport Premiere is like any other insurance policy. You would not insure your house because you haven't had a claim in 20 years, would you? The insurance company is in business to make money and they are betting that there will be fewer costs than the revenue they take in. You are saying, hey I have exposure here--do I want the risk of a major item going wrong or do I want to pass that risk off to someone else? Only your tolerance for risk and bank account can sort that problem out. Most of us don't want calims on insurance policies, I think

Was just quoted $7700 for passport premier, (w $20K/engine limited liability, captains class, engine upgrade, navigation class, and generator for a brand new 2008 leftover 340 sundancer...

Thinking of saying no, but...I've been down the road of boat repairs before and it can get pretty ugly.

Not sure what to do....Any and all advice more than welcomed!!!!!

I bought this when we purchased our new 2006 340.

I am not the type of person who normally buys extended warranties or over-insures anything, but I think I am glad I bought this. I have had to use this a few times over the last 2 and 1/2 years and I would not be surprised that issues will come up that are covered under the warranty within the next 3 and 1/2 years.

Admittedly, I am not (not yet anyways) a real DIYer/mechanically-inclined boat owner, and this does provide me some level of peace. I can see where over a 6 year period I will have paid more for the warranty versus paying a mechanic myself, but I also don't like writing unexpected checks. After 6 years, I think I will have gained much more knowledge about the workings of my boat and will be able to handle any issues better.

When I have used the warranty, these were for issues that occured even though I have been properly maintaining the boat.

We purchased the Premiere warranty on our 2009 280 to offload some risk as was previously mentioned....it turns out if you purchase as time of sale, you get the 6th year free, but otherwise, you have up to one full year from date of purchase to decide (though it then is only good for 5 yrs). Also, if you have no claims, you get your money refunded (up to $4k I think) at the end of your coverage.

I was just quoted $8400 for the captains class passport premier for a brand new 2008 leftover sundancer 330. Did you negotiate the $7700 price or was that the quoted price? Did you decide to buy the extended warranty?

I was quoted $8400 for Passport Premiere extended service on new 2008 Sundancer 330. It seems high but they said it included not only engine upgrade but wear and major casting/housing upgrade. Has anyone bought these upgrades?

interesting thread, & I gotta say thanks to boatrboy for giving me this link. I just bought a "leftover" 2012 sundancer 240 & the dealer is trying to sell me this plan. & of course they used the famous lines "almost everyone buys the warranty" Now that i am on to boat #3 & even though it is the largest boat I have ever had I look back at the issues I have had & they have all been fairly minor issues. & with them wanting almost 3 grand for the warranty & reading everyone's response sounds like its a good way to make Brunswick more money. Has any one ever bought this warranty on a new boat & had the warranty pay for its self?

I don't know if this is the right place, but I am looking for CURRENT INFO and experience with Passport Premiere. I did a quick search and most of the feedback seems to be several years old. I am looking for a Passport Premiere plan also covering international usage.I have had conflicting reports that subscriptions are based on time or hours of use. The pricing listed here is MUCH higher than what I am currently being offered. I have seen stories here of $7,700-$8,400 , but I was offered $599 for a five year plan. Though there may be discounts being offered over the years, this appears to be a 70% discount since 2011.

I tried calling a number in the 917 area code but can't seem to find a live person. Just trying to find independent views and talk to the company direct before making the commitment for Passport Premiere.

Thanks in advance for your input!
