Parts available for new and old sea ray boats

Will you be cheaper then getting them from our local MarineMax?

Glad to see this post. My "local" dealer is over 2 hours away and their phone and email support is, well to put it mildly, bad.
I don't care if I need parts from California, if quick email and phone replies can be had, it'll be quicker for me to go there.
Fortunately my boat is basically restored and so I need no further parts, but...you never know.

Bill,

What I am looking for are Seats (back to back style), fish cover hatches, anchor hatch cover, hatch for the cabin on the fore deck (not sure of the proper nomenclature).

I also need a bow rail, but am reserved to bending one myself.

Do you know if the intended use of the "fish box", located at the transom, was intended only for fish, or is it insulated for use as a cooler?

Thank you,
Gregg

Hello,
Happy Holidays!
Just in: various rolls of OEM SeaRay boot stripe tape from another a long standing dealer, now closed.
Various colors, widths and lenghts, 1/4 in to 5 inches wide, $1.00 to $8.00/ft. plus shipping.
Buy this new/old stock striping while we still have it. Many, but not all colors/widths.
Could your SeaRay use a hull/deck stripe facelift?
Replace with the same color or create a new look for your vessel !!
bbrownlow@russomarine.com
Thanks.

So far, you have attracted interest from MI, FL, MD, & TN, all of which are outside of your designated territory. Will Sea Ray allow you to sell parts out of territory?

Frank,
The answer might lie in this video:

They just became a Sea Ray dealer 23 months ago by picking up the assets of another dealer. I like that the family has been in the business for 70 years. They just appear to be new to Sea Ray and ........probably more to the point Brunswick's way of policing it's dealers territories.

4 Posts and all are ads. I have no problem with dealers participating on the site, in fact I encourage it. But there should be at least 50 posts of worthwhile content for every one post advertising boot stripe tape. If you just keep posting ads we'll need to re-evaluate your participation.

John,

I was just curious if Sea Rays prohibition against selling out of territory applied to parts as well as new boats. Part of the terms of the franchise agreement forbids dealers from selling out of their designated territory

Frank,
You are one of the smartest guys I have found on a boat forum and I'm willing to bet lunch you know that a SR Dealer can't sell parts out of territory without special exception. Imagine the treasure trove on ebay if that was not the case. All you find on ebay from MM dealers is SR shirts, hats and some boat stuff that a customer changed out for one reason or another.

You do raise an interesting perspective though on whether SR should enable a more direct parts channel. I don't think SR will ever have a real direct parts channel because of the franchise agreements. One method that may work is the model Mercruiser uses with mercurypartsexpress.com.

When you order parts from them, you have to go to one of their affilated locations to pick it up. If the game is about generating more revenue, it would make sense for them to at least consider enabling their customers to buy their parts online and pick them up at the dealer.

Heck, I'm sure a lot of us would like to take a look at SR's global inventories of parts and upgrades related to our boats. Imagine how that would stimulate business for them (just check out the number of views on this thread).

btw If I'm wrong....lunch is in DC...

Thanks, John........

No one can argue the fact that by the time we retail customers eventually get Sea Ray parts they are horrendously expensive......mark up's at the mfg, at Sea Ray and at your local dealer can make the true cost of a $1 part feel more like $2.50. Sea Ray has exclusivity agreements with OEM suppliers who sell the factories proprietary parts that extend a number of years. I have found Sea Ray to be very good about sharing the source and releasing them on older parts to allow the OEM guys to sell to us directly. My success with this has been achieved by working with my local dealer and his parts manager, not with Sea Ray directly. Perhaps they would help a retail customer with parts, I don't know.....I've just never needed to go beyond the local parts guy.

The margins on newer parts is what gets owners looking and shopping around........it is also one of the reasons I seriously doubt that Russo can sell out of territory under their franchise agreement.

I'm still waiting to see them post a response to that question here...............

Has anyone ever heard of a franchise agreement enforced? I work in industrial distribution and all I ever hear of are hand slaps...

I agree with Jim, some additional active participatioin would be welcome.

Sea Ray does and will enforce their franchise agreements relative to dealer's territories on boat sales, but I haven't heard whether or not they will on parts sales, which is why I asked the question.

I just know when our dealer gets a call from a customer out of town the first question he is asked is where do you live and where do you use your boat?

I bought my boat in Holland Michigan from the local SR dealer. I bought my parts in Harbor Springs 250 miles north of Holland because I had the time to do the work when I cruised. No one in the parts department ever ask me where I lived or used my boat. This seems to make little sense. I paid my money and I got my parts.

Re-read my comment.........I said I don't know if Sea Ray enforces dealer's territories on parts sales and posted that question for the Russo parts guy. So far I haven't sen the answer.

I cannot think other Sea Ray dealers will sit around and let an out of territory dealer under cut Sea Ray's retail prices when a dealer's agreement is in place to protect them.

Also, your Sea Ray experience was with mid 90's boats wasn't it? (I forget) and Sea Ray firmed their approach to territories in the '99-2000 time frame.
