I plan to replace my impeller with the OEM kit this summer.

My stern drive is a 2007 Alpha One, Gen 2.

It appears the correct kit is part #817275Q05.

Would appreciate confirmation that I have the correct part number for the latest generation impeller kit.

Thanks.

That is the full kit including the pump housing, which you really don't need to replace. You need the impeller kit 47-43026Q06.

Thanks. I'm going to get the full kit for the first time I do it just in case I need to replace the housing. Thereafter I'll go with just the kit.

Even though my boat is 10 years old, it's only got 200 hours on it (prior owner did only 100 hours over eight years). Merc says replace impeller at 300 hours or 3 years, whichever comes first. This boat has always been in fresh water and never overheats, so I'll probably replace at the end of the 2017 season just to be safe. Am I being over-cautious or should I wait until I get to 300 hours which would likely be after the 2018 season?

Also, think I should buy the alignment pins? Seems like a scam at $30+, but I like to do a job "right" given a faulty job might be "very expensive" if I screw it up. :smt021

Having the housing can't hurt - mine is a 1999 with 550hrs on it, I have never replaced the housing. I've changed mine after two years and after three (about 50hrs a year for me) and in both cases the impeller has always been in good shape. At this point I am on the three year plan. If your boat has the original impeller that is 10yrs old, I would go ahead and change it now, then get on the 3yr change interval, age is as important as hours on an impleller. 10yrs is a long time for an impeller, but I've heard of them going that long. As far as the pins, I made my own, took one of the housing bolts to Lowe's and matched it up with a bolt then cut the head off - $2, but I don't really see the need to use them, just make sure the shaft is centered in the hole of the impeller housing and cannot touch the sides.

Thank you. Agree ten years may be pushing it. I'll do the service at the end of this season, and then go on a three year cycle like you. I like your hardware store suggestion for the alignment pins. Cost effective!!!

BillK2632, what size bolts did you use for alignment pins? Size and thread pitch.

It's been so I long I honestly don't remember - I just took one of the housing bolts to the hardware store and matched it up. Brought the new bolts home and cut the heads off. The alignment pins are kinda nice, but lately I just hold the housing centered around the shaft and tight two of the bolts so things won't move around. The point of it all is to center the input shaft in the hold on the housing so the shaft won't touch and get scored.
