Pandora, Spotify, SiriusXM, Amazon Music, etc. which do you use and why?

Day 2 with SiriusXM and I'm starting to remember why I canceled it when it first came out years ago. I had a tuner in all of my cars and house then.

Sammy Hagar is really in the same category as Ozzy Osbourne?

Christian, Hip Hop, Dance?

Two days of seeing the word "Loading" on my SUVs screen, worse today since it's cloudy and raining.

All the DJs talking way too much.

Can I really listen to Elvis, U2, Dave Matthews, Billie Joel 24:7?

More talk channels than I'll ever use, I want music.

I'm going to give it a few more days, but so far it's not working for me.
I have SiriusXM in the car and drive a lot …..I have yet to find a channel I like….except Fox News….so end up listening to that and pissing off my anxiety

Hmm, so here is why I like my SXM especially on the boat. I
1. Don’t want to make manual playlists anymore. I have over 1T of music on an old Dell server that I turned into a DSN, never use it now. Not to mention all the iTunes stuff I’ve ripped and bought. Remember .99 a song?
2. I’ve spent some time drilling into the stations. Classic Rewind, Classic Vinyl, No Shoes (The Queen loves him, he mixes it up a bit, but…talks too much, fun to hear him talk drunk though), Ozzy’s bone yard, goes on and on.
3. Not SXM specific but did I mention it runs through the Garmin ;), no break ins when a phone call or text comes in.
4. Never loses signal, at least not on Lake Norman
5. I can put my phone in the cabin…off…and enjoy my day.

No I don’t work for SXM, matter of fact…I don’t work for anyone anymore , just have to keep breathing for the checks to come in.

My .02
Jon
Pretty much the same channels we use. Hair nation is another gooder.

Don't forget. XM/Sirius is satellite radio. So DJs and all, with no comercials. Pandora etc are streaming services. They just play songs in some type of order.

Dad loves Willie's Roadhouse. The wife has her few. My son has his. I like the Radio Classics and a couple of the music. On the rare case of the kids and wife locked in the truck, I like to piss them off with Spa. I spent three months in a truck driving the country, team driver, and he only listened to Spa. It didn't bother me too much other than I-80 across Wyoming, in the winter, with snow packed roads and white out blowing snow. But he didn't want to go 300 miles in silence.

I prepay SXM annually for each of my cars, which breaks down to $6.00 per month. When my calander alerts me, or I get the notice in the mail 11-months later, that it's about to renew for $22.00 per month, I call and tell them to cancel the account if they can't match the $6.00 per month charge I paid the previous year. They always honor it.
Me too!

Just did some quick research on pandora, they're owned by Sirius XM

And in the SiriusXM app you can setup personalized streaming supposedly. I haven't done that yet but keep hearing that you can. I still pay for Pandora separately, to afraid if I do something with Pandora on Sirius it will affect my Pandora stations that took me years to groom.

Well damn….then they fixed everything wrong with SXM and created Pandora
No, they were both around, perhaps Pandora first. That was an experiment of matching music DNA to create genre channels. Kinda works, except every second song on the Buffet channel is always Eagles, and Smooth Jazz always starts off with Kenny G. I think Sirius/XM bought them to survive. NOBODY should pay 19.99 per month for streaming music. I was a customer of XM when it really was 5 bucks a radio, before the "I'm gonna cancel" decades. I probably had 10 accounts. I used to give them to friends as a gift, and paid for it for years. We had Classic Rock in Rum Cay when no one could figure out how I was doing that. Just cancelled the last account last month. There's just no reason to keep playing their game, unless you are going to be out of range for all other carriers. Starlink is fixing the out at sea issue. I believe the Pandora side will take over, and move them away from the retiring V-Jays "flapping their jibs". Paid, no commercials. Free, you get commercials.

I had Pandora for a good bit and cultivated a good play list.

I wouldn’t mind paying but will it go straight to my Fusion radio or do I still have to use my pad/phone to then stream it? My biggest up check for XM is it’s right on my Garmin, I don’t have to go looking for which device is streaming, not complaining or bashing just my .02

I have Sirius on the boat. I have never paid for it. It came with a 6 month trial subscription that they told me I could split between 2 seasons. So at the end of the first season I suspended the subscription. When I called in the spring I was told they were no longer honoring that but I was welcome to purchase a subscription. I declined. We put the boat in and Sirius popped up. We have had it ever since 2008 and never gotten a bill. Pure karma stank for not honoring the trial. But we don't listen to it really. My son has unlimited Spotify and I have about 1,000 songs on my phone plus streaming.

We use Spotify. It started many years ago when I purchased Sonos speakers at the house. We had originally planned on having speakers in the main rooms, but I ran out of money during construction. So the wires are in the ceiling, and was going to wait to put the speakers in. During the waiting, wireless technology increased dramatically, and in comes Sonos. Have have 7 pairs of Sonos speakers throughout my house. That is when I started my Spotify Family subscription. It allows for 5 or 6 licenses, if I remember correctly. It is currently $14.99/month.

I was talking with a buddy at the Marina last summer. He is a techie. I was asking him about stereo/speakers for the boat as my equipment on my 2006 is original. Some of the speakers are blown, etc. After some discussion he recommended the following set up for the boat:
1. Buy an iPad that is dedicated for boat use only.
2. Buy Sonos speaker(s) for the boat. They now have some that are rechargable so you don't need AC power at all.
3. For times that you are in an area without cell service, you can download the songs from Spotify to play.
4. The dedicated ships iPad will also run/manage the Smart TVs on board.
5. For live TV, and when in cell range, use the phone to cast to the TV.

I like the concept. The cost is minimal. A Sonos Roam is $179. https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/roam
You can put many of them "together" for a bigger sound if you want. Or, they can play different things, all at the same time.

sonos guy …. Have you seen these?…. This would help a lot to keep them from bouncing around the cabin :)

It works where nothing else does. A higher quality signal then FM and no commercials. Also there are a lot of channels that do not have DJ's. But to each his own. Sirius is not about songs, it's about genre'.

Now Spotify is where songs can be found, but you need iNet to use that.

Do you really need the internet for Spotify? You have the option to download the songs/playlists to your device. They will remain there for a period of time. I believe, to keep them on the device, is just use Spotify while connected to the internet and it sort of "refreshes" the list (my interpretation)

Right, but at some point you do need the iNet to get the songs, also it's DRM so they only play on the device they are downloaded on. But you can also stream Spotify on one of their "channels" much like Pandora.
