Greetings....... I was thinking of trailering the boat to Panama City from Pensacola one weekend, and looking for reccomendations for a decent public boat launch in the St. Andrews Park area. I guess my idea of decent is PLENTY of parking, easy access with reasonable waiting time, a safe place to leave the vehicle, and nice facilities such as docking, restrooms, ect. Your advice appreciated.

I've heard a lot of good things about the St. Andrews park ramp. However I have never launched there myself.

That is the easiest and most accessible and they do have planty of parking. You have to pay to get into the park so that adds some security that most public ramps do not have.

Most of the marinas....Treasure Island and Bay Point.... do not open their ramps to the public because they do not have adequate parking space. There is also a public ramp about 1/2 way up Grand Lagoon on the south side, west of the Grand Lagoon Bridge....I think it is near Dolphin St.......its free, has no security and has very limited parking.

There is also a good public ramp on the NE end of Hathaway Bridge, but it is a long run to the pass and Shell Island from there.

Don't use the Dauphin Street Ramp unless you have some place to take your trailer and have the extra help to guide you back to the ramp off the street. Very narrow and hazardous.

Your best bet is the State Park. There is plenty of parking, two ramps and a concrete dock area large enough to handle several boats. Be patent because there will be a lot of walking traffic around the ramp area because the ferry docks are just next door and the parking is across from the ramps.

When you retrieve your boat pull it all the way up to the store to finish your strap down and unloading, it will give you some elbow room.

Have fun.
