We were boating in Spring Lake last week and had a thought, have any of you stayed the night on the hook in that lake? Seems like some of the "coves" would be a nice place to drop anchor and stay the night. We have stayed at the municipal marina and enjoy that, but some times it is nice to get "further" away from people. Any info would be appreciated.

You can stay on the seawall or you can stay in any of the coves, just keep your anchor light on. You can also stay between the shore and shipping lane in the channel, like where they do during CGfest. I prefer to overnight on the hook in Holland on Lake Mack or in Port sheldon, both are nice and quiet.

We do this all the time in SL. After Labor Day is the best time as you will likely be the only boat on the hook. It's getting to be that time.

Eric, Which sea wall are you referring to? I know there is the one on the channel out the lake Michigan, are referring to that one, or one in SL?

SBW, saw your boat tied up when we went by last week. Nice setup you have there. We were out during the week so the lake was not very busy and that is what got me thinking about overnighting. Last time I was there it was nut's so the thought never crossed my mind.....

I'm talking about the steel sea wall between the Coast Guard station and the Municipal Marina on the South side of the channel as you enter from lake MI, way before you get into Spring Lake. For some reason, the river, channel, and Spring Lake are all called Grand Haven in my mind. I should prob. distinguish between them all more.

Ah, no problem, I figured that might be what you meant but wanted to make sure. So they will let you overnight on that seawall? I had not given that a thought as it is busy in that area, but it might come in handy at times.

I think it's a technicality. I asked the mayor once and the people at the marina. They don’t want people to do this but they can’t stop them. There are coves along the river and in the lake where you could drop anchor and no one would care. If you are traveling up river from the power plant there is a cove where the river bends to the bridge.

This time of year things settle down. People are doing school related things. We enjoy seeing the tourists show up in the spring and enjoy the peace and quiet in the late summer when they leave.

Looking for a nice place to go for labor day weekend, any where from Leland to White Hall.
The Admrial wll be with us, so we will need a above average place to slip. Leaving from Sturgeon Bay WI.
Thanks

That "cove" is the turning basin for ships.

Currently holed up in Pentwater for the weekend. Lake turned a bit nasty this weekend... This would be a nice stop. Snug Harbor would be my recommendation for a marina.

Pentwater is not a bad place to be stuck for a day or two.

Like Berth Control we like Port Sheldon for overnighting than Spring Lake. But we have slept on the hook on both and have had an enjoyable time at both.

Frankfort is nice. See if you can get into Jacobsons. A great marina with good frindly help. You can walk downtown. Ludington is another good stop plus downtown is close.

Called snug harbor on Monday, Can't get my name on a waiting list until Thursday. Then I have to call on Friday to see if they have room. I guess I understand, so we will give it a shot.

We got in to snug harbor on the wall. Great people, great place.
Lake was like glass for the trip over and back.
Thank's for your help
