Just got a 10 foot dingy with aluminum floor, beautiful colapsible wooden oars with a fairly new Yamaha 4 stroke engine. Question: I Plan on adding davit to swim platform to mount dingy, but want to keep motor inside of cockpit area. any one have any suggestions on a stand to purchase/build to put motor on behind helm seat? Thanks.

Unless you are a weight lifter you will probably some day drop the motor in the water. We have a 5 HP that weighs 40 pounds. It is not like lifting a suit case at an airport onto the scales. I take mine off in the fall and it is difficult with a rocking boat, bouncing dinghy and wet swim platform. Sail boat people have lifting eye on top of their motors and use a winch.
We have a Seawise system on out boat and it works well.

Thanks for the input.

I was told that 4 stroke Yamaha engines should not be layed on there side, so I will remove the engine to store the dingy on the swim platform and the engine in the cockpit behind the helm seat.

my 6hp Yamaha says it can be stored on 1 side or the back.

Usually the 4 stroke motors are able to lay on one side & the back. I believe the other side is no good because of oil flow possibly into the cylinders.

Thanks for that info. To be on the safe side I think I want to stand the motor upright off the dingy.
