I just brought home my first new Sea Ray. The 200 Sundeck was perfect for my family so I finally broke down and got it. This was only after several years of just dreaming about it and convincing my wife it was absolutely necessary. So now I have the boat, we're cruising down the lake and life could'nt be any better. Untill WHAM! We go from a cool 30 mph to a heart breaking 0. To make a long story short, we hit bottom in shallow water (approx 6-8 in.) in the middle of the lake with no warning bouys to be found. This was no sand bar either or if it was it was full of rocks. With some help we were able to free the boat and get back to the marina where I promptly loaded it back on the trailer. To my surprise there was very little hull damage. Yet there are some small chunks of fiber glass missing. The prop was pretty scratched up but not bent. So I'm thinking, Hey this isn't so bad until I glanced at the out drive and saw gear fluid leaking out. It seems their is a small hole in the lower unit. We brought the boat home and I cleaned it up as best I could. I haven't taken it in yet partially because I'm not sure where to go. I could take it back to the dealer, but they are 2-3 hrs. away. The local lake marina may be an option, but it's a new boat and I don't want to jepordize the warranty. Not that any of this would be covered. Any advice or sympathy would be greatly appreciated.

Call Sea Ray and see if your local yard can fix it. Most manufacturers will let you take your boat wherever you want and they will pay the bill as long as it is approved beforehand. The drive is Merecruiser anyway and has nothing to do with your Sea Ray warranty. Good Luck

Wow, sorry about your troubles there. A freind of mine had a similar problem with his boat but he hit a sunken boat and done some really bad damage to his outdrive. Luckily he was insured through Progressive insurance. He took his boat to a local shop and they replaced his lower unit within about a week and he was on his way. As far as I know his payments didnt go up but progressive was on the ball and had him in the water again pretty quick! :p
Good luck! Brad

take it to a local mercruiser dealer, file an insurance claim and let them fix it. do not let them use aftermarket parts, this is where a good mercruiser dealer comes in, regardless if it is your selling dealer or not
