Other Forums

Like most here, when the SRO site closed shop, I was disappointed. And, like most, I went out on the net looking for place to hang my hat.

I have been a member on other sites for some time now. Heck, I started on "rec.boats" back in the mid 80's. I still enjoy visiting and participating on other sites, but THIS is home base.

I say thanks to Jim, Wesley and Richard for doing an Absolute, without a doubt, EXCELLENT job... :smt038 :smt038 ...(two hand clappers are for a Standing "O"... or, one for applause and one to turn the lights...which ever you prefer)....but I will second what most have already said....it is the great bunch of members, us, in conjunction with our host and moderators, that make this site so great.........and it is getting "greater" as more folks find and participate here.

As a novice and a female you all have been patient and very considerate - it is much appreciated.

I think it goes to show that, in general, people who choose to purchase Sea Ray boats are well educated, mature, civil, and have decided to contribute to society more than the average Joe.

That's become a defining characteristic in my mind lately - does a person contribute to our society, or do they suck the life out of it. It's always been a philosophy of mine to try and make the world a better place.

In San Antonio, we never left the river/lake without filling up a large trash bag with other people's garbage. When I go to the beach, I make it my job to pick up other's drink cans, water bottles (once they've been left behind, that is), and any washed-up stuff that I can reasonably manage. Other stuff seems to be easier to stomach if it's collected and left up close to the dunes for a heavy clean-up crew to handle.

Someone has taken it upon themselves to make a shrine on the Island in our area. They gather up waste and debris from the ocean, and arrange it at one particular location behind a dune. It's a form of art. Last week, there was a large, fresh coconut added - We don't have those trees anywhere near here - interesting. I like to go visit it to see what else has been added periodically.

Sea Ray owners, you should be proud - Other CSR members, you're included too.

Yep, even for a “foreigner†like me the CSR members are nice and friendly.
I know I make a lot of grammatical mistakes, but I never get a remark about this.
The problem for me is, that sometimes I know a answer, can help some one, have a question.. but sometimes I don’t know the right words or can’t explain myself on the correct way.

Also I want to give my thanks to Jim, Jeremy and Richard for the time they are willing to spend on this great forum.

Of course this forum would be nothing without the contribution from all the CSR members!!

It is fun to see Froggy (remember him from SRO) get pedantic. I think he has been placed in BoatUS exile!! :smt101

awwww.. I wondered what happened to the frogster...

My thanks to those that keep this place in order and running as well. As a first time boater I came to SRO before our purchase and it was a great help to someone just getting their feet wet. Now i konw that's not a good thing  . But truly, it was great how so many would try to help out.

sighhh...now if I could just find that 'puter forum as good as this one.......

Just wondering what ever happened to Frank FC3. He was incredible and constructive with hands on advise. I think he knows more about his boat and it's systems (something 'Ducky') than Sea Ray. Really incredible! After the demise of SRO he had 1 or 2 on one of the other forums and then he disappered.
Hope he didn't get stuck in a 'no wake zone'!
If he ever decides to join this forum, they better increase the bandwith again. I always felt he could right a Sea Ray encyclopedia by himself.

I don't know about you guys - but I have almost reached the point of this being the only boating forum I participate in. Boatus has gotten out of hand.
Me too ... I agree and I don't like the heavy hand on the BoatersEd forum squashing everything that Les doesn't like personally ...

BoatUS used to have a really good board, but in the last couple of years it has declined alot, imo. However, I did enjoy watching Froggy spar with the Liberals - not much for boating but it was entertaining.

I want to echo the praises and thanks for CSR - it's a sanctuary among boating forums.

Every one on this board is a class act. All of the members try to help each other out when ever possible and respect everybody's opinon. You do not always see a lot of respect in society today. Fortunatly we see it here every day.

Great forum. Lets keep up the good work!!!

I have exchanged e-mails with FC3 as part of my failed campaign to get him out of Just Ducky and into an Oil Burner. I believe he will re-join at some point when he is good and ready. Candidly, I miss his spot-on assessments of all things electrical and mechanical. Between he and Frank W SRO boasted a superb brain trust of extraordinarily experienced Captains who would answer questions to the best of their ability.
I often catch myself helping other guys at my Marina and I simply pass on what I have learned here. The best example was a retired Marine friend with a 96 500DA with Cats. He had not been through Frank W's new diesel owner boot camp and when his Racors clogged on the Chesapeake he had to call Sea Tow. I was fueling up one day and he and I chatted a bit abour Racors and fuel system management. I was topping off the 2 gallon container of clean diesel I keep aboard (per Frank's advice) for racor swaps. So my friend asks why I keep the diesel aboard. I took him through Webster's Racor and fuel system management 101. It is just doing the right thing, in my opinion, to help folks out this way. This remains the great strength of CSR.
Something else I truly appreciate is that we do not brand-bash here. There are folks who aspire to a 20 year old Bayliner...and when they finally get it they are thrilled. I've never understood why some feel the need to bash the brand and label as idiots those who buy Brand X. Senseless "jackassery" as Frank W alluded to. I mean clearly branded for what it is.
I appreciate the respect, maturity and consideration that is present on this forum....which explains why I am in my office and not watching HGTV with the Admiral!

I miss FC3 as well........he had a very clean and concise manner for clearing up electrical and electronic "fog" that surrounds some of us. Having his participation provides not only a great resource of boating knowledge, but a check and balance on the rest of us since very little escaped him........if you posted an incomplete answer, one with multiple meanings, or an incorrect one, you could count on having to explain it or be corrected.

And, Skip........I don't think I alluded to jackass-ery. I called it what it is. And, if those guys show up over here, I don't have the time or patience for them and will do my part to make them "uncomfortable."

My post is properly edited, Coach.
I will shoot FC3 another e-mail and see if he wants to re-join the team.

Tell FC3 we all hope he comes back, He should read this whole thread 'cause he did help alot on all things electrical, and hi-tech. We also miss his Lincoln Navigator!

I would just like to add ....... well actually there's nothing to add because you guys have said it all

I would like to point out though, that the boating forums in the UK seem to be on a par with those in the US, after reading this thread, with all the back stabbing, bitching and "my boats bigger than your boat" attitude.

My heart sank when the SRO closed, but it has been so refreshing to meet up with you all again.

Perhaps its the Sea Ray name that attracts honest and sincere peeps, needless to say ..... this is the best boating forum I've ever been a member of
