Ordering food, i dont know a good title.

I am in 100% agreement about taking walk in folks over Door Dash. That being said, please define:
Large Group?
What time of day or evening?

My point is, if you’re going to show up with 6+ and it’s the busy time with no reservation then you get what you get. Make a slight plan. My.02
5 people. 11am, maybe 10 in bar including them, not busy yet.

Getting a little off topic here, but we enjoy trying a new local restaurant and going to our favorites. Taxes are starting to get ridiculous though. There's a regular tax, bar tax, and food tax now. Works out to be almost 20%

I have never used doordash and the like, and don't plan to unless I have to.

I have used it for my mom though, who is stuck in her apartment, losing her sight, and can't drive.

We don't go out to eat very often and as far as I'm concerned it can be even less. I know the places often have problems getting/keeping staff but I'm getting tired of poor service, poor food, and the ever escalating prices. I'm tired of having to see the 20-30-40% tip options, often the math already done...for my convenience of course. The tipping thing is out of hand, what is a tip even for anyway? I'm starting to feel abused.

This weekend I went to pay my bill and I notice a different charge at the bottom right by the sales tax amount. I asked them what it was and they said it was a 'new tax'. I said 'what new tax' and they didn't know so I told them to go find out. Of course it wasn't a 'new tax' at all, it was CC processing fees. Maybe the next time there'll be a new item charge for the guy that cleans the shiter and shovels the sidewalk.
Almost every restaurant in my area shows an additional CC fee. I’ve been carrying more cash because of it. Some local places only accept cash.

Always pay with cash at restaurants. I've never used a food delivery service, even during the shut down. I do understand it's part of life now. As far as the original issue? It's a bar not a restaurant (I guess?) so not much of a kitchen. Orders are already taken and times promised. Now the greeter could have been more tactful and explained the situation better. Most of the restaurants we go to have call ahead seating and I use that feature all the time. We can't have my 90yo mother in law standing/waiting so the call ahead is a important. The restaurants without call ahead we make sure to go early and miss the worker bee crowd.

Maggie, I'm lucky enough to be married to a lady who is a gourmet cook/chef. When she's planning her menu she checks for recipes from among her 100+ cook books. She loves to cook and is very good at it.

I like to take her out to eat about once a week just to give her a break. So if you saw us in a restaurant, it would be because I want to treat her, not because she's being lazy.

Things aren't always as they appear on the surface.
I completely understand that. My wife and I enjoy going out to eat and having a couple/few drinks. It’s a real treat. But to have your meal delivered to your house to eat at home is just plain lazy. In my opinion.

I never order for delivery. They seldom get it right. When my son lived home, he did a lot, and they always got something wrong or forgot an item.

Pizza delivered OK. Chinese food delivered... Maybe.

Anything else... No way...

Not to be putting words into @Maggieiscrazy's mouth, but it seems he was eluding more to the point that people can't even pick up their own food. Have someone else make it, then someone else deliver it. You can even have door locks you can open with your phone so you don't have to get up out of your Lazyboy recliner. My main concern at that point is finding someone who'll empty my bedpan and wipe my lazy butt.
I agree that @Maggieiscrazy meaning got miss-construed my fault for opening that can of worms, Hopefully taking the boat out tomorrow (yes with pictures ;)) and a couple of nice homemade French Dips:)

A little off topic but maybe funny to some, I always pay the bill with a card but tip in cash. We are at our favorite hangout, Port City club, picture attached, we have our favorite server’s cell to see if she’s working and don’t have to wait. We eat drink and be merry, bill comes, no glasses on the old man (me), I tip her 20 on what should be 50, she walks away like I threw battery acid on her. The Queen looks and me, rolls her eyes and says “thats all you’re going to tip her?” I gather my whits, she comes back and I trip over myself apologizing, hand her a 50 she says “would you like the 20 back?” Queen immediately responds with “oh no Hon, it’s all yours” she skips off all happy. Another crisis averted, moral; have glasses and ask my girl what the number is before she walks away.

I’ve never used a food delivery service but I do get a pizza delivered once in a while. I ordered a pizza a few weeks ago. The delivery person would have been a stand out on the bikini thread. At least I think so since its winter in Northern Illinois. Gave me something to think about for a few days. Actually pizza sounds pretty good right now.

We typically pick up pizza every Friday night at the local place. With the exception of pizza and subs, my experience with takeout has not been good. It's usually soggy, and not as good by the time you get home as it would have been in the restaurant.

I worked in restaurants through high school and college, and I can tell you we rarely, if ever, turned a table away.

Yeah. It's very hard to get normal food right for take out.

Our youngest never left the nest but went straight into the trades. Working on his 3rd year electrical apprenticeship now. He had something similar to your doordash, drop off some take out meals for himself on a couple occasions. Sorta lost my sh** a bit the second time and he is paying $400/month now for his share of the groceries in the cupboard. Told him if I see them here again it is going up. Seemed to have fixed that.
Our (middle child) daughter came back after 4 years on her own and is doing the same but still only in her first year. She thinks $400 is a sweet deal.
They are both working (50 hr/wks) for the prime contractor at a new hospital going up in town.
