Well we pulled the trigger on a new vehicle. While we have a perfectly fine RAV4 XLE Premium, our daughters birthday is coming up and next Fall she is looking at going to UMD (Duluth). Those that have been to a Duluth know how beautiful it is, however Winters can be rough and we’d like her to have an all wheel drive when needed.

We debated keeping it and finding her a used Camry or Corolla (we like the reliability of Toyotas) but as some of you experienced, used car prices are just as ridiculous as new car MSRP pricing. Our RAV, if this was Trumps economy would probably be worth around $15k, which is about borderline what we would spend on her, but the damn thing is up to $20k and we’ve had it for 3.5 years…crazy. So we’re giving it to her so she’s not in debt during and hopefully after college graduation.

We took a risk and ended up buying a Subaru Outback Limited. We were considering the Touring XT with the turbo, which has plenty of power, but I didn’t want to deal with any potential turbo issues. Plus it gets about 2-3 mpg less. I already have an F150 FX4 with the 3.5 ecoboost. The Outback is a nice vehicle. It’s smoother than the RAV and quieter. (We test drove the RAV4 Premium Hybrid) The only thing we’re not crazy about is the infotainment screen and all the nannying safety features. However their 2.5l powertrain seems to be reliable and comes with a factory 10yr/100k mile and the dealership adds another 5yrs and 50k to that. MSRP of course. Also, around here there’s a Subaru stigma of being a hippy or, well, some of you may know. Maybe we’ll put a Blue Lives Matter flag on it instead of a Bernie sticker. :D

I had a Forester for just over a year as a company car.... from 23k to 85k miles with no issues. In late 2019 I chose to go with an Equinox vs another Forester. Subaru builds nice cars.

We have a 2017 Crosstrek Limited that we bought new. Just turned 60,000 miles and no issues. Well...other than the headlight burnt out the other night. Had to replace the battery in it last year too. She had a 2006 Jeep Commander before that that we bought new and she loved it but the Subaru goes just as good in the snow

62K in just over a year? Holy cow, I drive 36-40k a year in my work truck and I thought that was a lot!

Indeed @boatman37 . I travel all over for work so reliability and having the Admiral being able to trudge out of the snow is key while away.

It's classified as a wagon, so it'll be the 'family truckster'.

I just hit 106k on my '20 Equinox I picked up in January 2020. They add up quickly when I try to minimize nights away from the family and 350 miles every weekend to/from the boat. We typically order a new one at 75k.... but here I am. She looks and drives like she's off the showroom floor and is fully loaded so no complaints here. Due to supply chain issues GM isn't building them with heated seats so I have no issues keeping this one a bit longer than normal...

I heard a guy just yesterday talk about the heated seat issue, they do not have the chips for them, they told him if he went ahead and bought the car, when the chip came in they would install it for free.

Yeah that's what the window sticker say. Rumor has it we're switching to Escape's that aren't as well equipped.... so I'm asking no questions! It's almost sunroof season!

So you ordered it. Is it being built or coming from another dealer somewhere?
If being built, what’s the delivery time now?

Actually it has a planned delivery of the 17th. It was already ordered and just happened to have the package we wanted and the color. We had to put a $500 deposit down. I'm still debating on the Touring XT model. Otherwise it's 3-6 months I was told.

We leased a brand new Hyundai Kona SE AWD 2.0 in 2019 for our son. Today he’s got 50k mikes on it and the only thing was a light bulb went out. Fantastic car fun to drive.

So we’re buying out the lease. We owe $12k and the dealer begged us for it offering $18k. They’d sell it for $22k. That’s what we bought it new for in 2019!!

I keep my old Ford truck w 245,xxx miles in the garage and drive a company car 2021 Nissan Rogue AWD that is sweet.

I only use non ethanol in my truck and I’ll only drive it around town short distances on weekends to preserve the $3.50 gal non ethanol in the tank. Lol.

Yeah, it’s tough right now. I retired my 2012 1 ton last year. Had one ordered and was told 6 to 8 months. Then was told last March that on the 15 th they stopped production of ‘21’s because of shortages and all the build slots were filled in both Kentucky and Ohio, I would have to wait for a ‘22 and no idea when they would start building them. I went online and found a ‘21 exactly what I wanted except it is Star White instead of Oxford. (Now I love the Star White) Good thing I did too. The dealer I ordered it from just knocked off the 5th wheel/gooseneck package kept the order going for inventory. It still hadn’t shown up in November when I talked to him last. I understand they started building them in mid July in Kentucky, not sure about Ohio. It had to be one of the first ones on the list. I had also heard that Ford was pushing the Broncos to get a bunch out there, hopefully yours will be soon.

Actually, we bought ours February 2017, a week later my son bought a brand new WRX then a week later my best friend bought a brand new Crosstrek after seeing ours, then a few weeks later his one son bought a brand new Impreza, then a few weeks later they bought a 2015ish Subaru for their daughter, then their other son bought a slightly used 2016 WRX. And they had an older Subaru before all of this. Then he bought a 2014 Subaru something. So between our family and his family (he has 4 kids) there were 6 Subarus. Never any issues with any of them

What i remember about Duluth was winter started around Labor day and ended around the 4th of July. I remember being in the process of pouring the concrete base to hold one of our massive crushers in mid-June and it started snowing. To be fair that plant was close to the lake in Superior Wisconsin.

Subarus are everywhere in West Michigan. Very popular car here, so the car must be pretty good. Great for getting around in our lake effect snow. I ordered an Audi A5 convertible for my wife last September and it has yet to be built due to a big slowdown in manufacturing at the factory. The dealer has no idea when it will be built or delivered. Of course one of their car carriers is at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean so that is a whole other set of problems.

Subaru's are great little cars. You're okay as long as you keep the rainbow stickers out of the rear window and don't wear Birkenstocks.

Yes. That’s funny. Our cabin is on the S. shore in WI, only about 50 miles from Duluth. We usually don’t open it up until mid-June. We close it up mid-September however I’d like to keep it open a little longer. We’re 4hrs away from it so it’s a bit of a drive to spend 2 days and turn around.
