Options for towing 220 SD...

All three have 6.0 gas, the two Ext Cab LWB are rated at 10,500 and the Crew Cab SWB 4x4 is rated at 9900 tow rating. Yes all have had some serious weight in the beds before. But if I have anything heavy I use my 3 ton flat bed to carry things around, which I do on a very regular basis. I tow 3-4 thousand lbs of fasteners in delivery 4-5 times a month and average 1000-2000 in the work trucks almost daily. Any lessor vehicle would not be able to stand up to the work load.

Best regards

Just curious where you came up with the 8,400 lbs. My Suburban is a 1997 5.7 ltr. 2 wheel drive with a 3.42 axle ratio. In my manual it states for this axle max. trailer weight is 6,000 lbs.

Our Suburban is in great shape. It has 135,000 miles. We had to put in a new transmission a few 1,000 miles ago and I told them that I towed 6,000 lbs. They said they would rebuilt it with and uprgrade(heavier) duty transmission.

Thank-you for your information.

Sorry, 8,400 lbs. towing capacity is for the newer 2007 Suburban. They also make a 2500 series that can tow 9,700 lbs.

For your vehicle I might add an additional trans cooler. That would help keep your HD trans cool. They probably used HD clutch packs and bearings, furnace brazed torque converter and maybe a HD pump.

With the phoney surge brakes on these trailers I would never tow a 220 with anything less than a 3/4 ton. I know lots of people do it I'm just not one of them. Even with 4 wheel discs they leave alot to be desired.I live in Montana and we have mountains everywhere.

My tow vehicle is a 2006 Dodge Ram Diesel and to me it's a perfect match.
