oppressive heat and humidity.....

This was the first weekend all summer that we weren't on the boat because we went to visit some friends in Bethany Beach, DE. We played golf (7:54 tee time) and it was one of the very few times I've ever wanted to be off the golf course. I drank more water in four hours than I normally do in a week. I lived in Houston for 28 years and this east coast heat/humidity easily rivals anything in Houston.

we went through a 24 pack of bottled water this WE.....sometimes I literally felt like I could not drink it fast enough.....

i have lived in this area all my life....this is some of the toughest times for heat and humidity i have ever experienced....

It's 4:30 on Monday, 92 outside now, 113 heat index. And today was cooler than yesterday!

we have been starting at 7am and working till 2 or 3pm. If I get one more retiree come outside and tell me "there such a nice breeze" I'm gonna go postal 

It was to hot yesterday to even go enjoy the boat and that's pretty bad for me.

Sounds like some of you guys live on the wrong side of the country. We had high 90's for the past several days but with about 20% humidity. We spent a couple of hours Sunday afternoon on the Whaler, swam in the 73* water, then went home and swam in the 85* pool. Both felt good.

Ya gotta love living in a desert climate.

We were down at Bethany too this past weekend it was hot but there was a strong breeze down along the beach. Bethany Blues bourbon selection and BBQ certainly helped us beat the heat.

Bethany Blues and Bourbon??? Sounds like it's time to come up and visit my uncle in Rohoboth Beach

Cliff, come down to the dirty south where it's 105-115 with the heat index AND 100% Humidity.

I walk outside in the morning to go to my truck after just getting out of the shower, and I'm already sweating like a whore in confession, sweating like five fat asses in a Volkswagen!!! :smt089

I heard that today was #66 this year for temps in ATL at 90+. Normal is less than 30. This has been a very hot summer in the SE. Water temps yesterday at 8am were 84-85 and when I cranked up at 2:30 to head for the trailer, it was 88.

I was at Bethany Beach last weekend also. I just swam in the 72.5° ocean 8 hours a day! Felt great! And there are a lot of fish in right now with the cooler than average water temperatures.

My ex took our daughter down to Duck NC and the water was 62°!

I heard a few boaters complain their diesels didn't run great this past weekend due to the oppressive amount of moisture in the air right now here in mid-atlantic.

We hit 100 over the weekend but not much humidity and water was about 75 so easy to cool down! Spent several hours hanging in the water with a cool drink!

Yeah, Ken, we spent all of Saturday in bedroom #2 in Potato Slough. The water felt great and the beer tasted even better. 100 degrees doesn't feel so bad at 10% humidity and a nice cool river!

By the way, saw your PM. I've been very busy and will reply soon. Sorry for the delay.

Cliff - we were moving furniture into our new winter condo at the North Star Yacht Club in Fort Myers all last week. We didn't get in the water, but we won't be spending much time there in the summer! Talk about heat and humidity! We loved the afternoon thunderstorms - they at least cool you off! Looking forward to being there in January though!

Lake Chickamauga is a warm bath as well right now!

Alatoona water has been hovering around 91-92 for the past few weeks. The worst-aside from the $500 air conditioning bills-has been pulling into the slip under the metal roof and dealing with the canvas. I've skipped it quite a few times and gone back at 6am the next day to put the boat to bed.

Lake Norman is 92 right now - I grew up in the south, so used to the heat and humidity, but this summer has definitly been a hot one. High humidity and 90 is hot, but typical southern summer fare. Mid/upper 90s is a different story. I run and typically like to do it on the greenway trails in the evening, but in this heat I hit it early morning - I am amazed to see people out running at 5pm when it's 96. Sunday morning by 9am it was already upper 80's. I mean dang! I've even had to go to 8oz beers so I can drink them before they get warm, that Yeti might keep them cold, but at some point you have to hold it up and drink it, and don't drop one in the 92deg lake, might as well put in in boiling water -- global warming is real!

But don't worry, in a few months it will be a bone chilling 35 here, the heat pumps won't keep our poorly insulated houses warm and we will be huddled down in the den with a fire, worrying if we winterized the boat properly and wondering if it will ever thaw out!

............no thanks......I guess things can always be worse than what we are experiencing....

a friend of mine lived in FL for a while and he said they would get a cooling thunderstorm just about every afternoon in the summer....I wish we would at least get that around here so it would cool things off...we are in a moderate drought in this area right now.....

luckily our dock fees include power and water.....

I agree about hating to put the cockpit cover back on the boat at the end of the WE in heat like this......even when the Admiral helps it takes a lot out of us....we live too far from the boat to put it off until the next morning..

I'm from Florida, but the heat here has been tough. The lake temp is not refreshing either. So, taking a dip doesn't have the cooling effect your body wishes for.
I admit to skipping the boat, and taking my camper to the mountains...but it has been pretty hot in the mountains too. Oh well, come on fall. lol
