Have you ever tried to fast forward through previews and gotten this message, or similar?

Well, it pisses me off. If the preview is intriguing, I will watch it, and perhaps rent the damn move, but if it isn’t…

Thoughts?

Rip it and burn a new DVD without the mandatory advertisements.

Yeah, agreed, how the Hell do you do that?

Public school here, so it had better be relatively easy...

I think it depends on how new/sophisticated your unit (STS) is. My Sea Ray ones allow me to FF through them (2005).

It has nothing to do with the player but how it was authored. You can lockout functions on certain elements of a DVD when it is authored.

There are also new copy protection schemes that are very effective. Sony and Lionsgate films are currently using them. It lets you rip the DVD but you don't get the beginning or end of the film.

I know what you mean, but the player has to be able to see and interpret the signal which then dis-allows the function. Older ones did not support those features. I have many discs on the boat which allow me to skip/fast forward throught the irritating stuff, but don't allow me to do so at home (newer unit at home). Am I completely off track here?

could be the case, I don't own any older units anymore.
