Got this email this AM!

As per the Provincial Government’s announcement yesterday, effective Saturday, May 16th, 2020 at 8:00AM we will be open for customers to access their boat and prep them for launch.

We are asking all of our boaters to follow the guideline and limitations for the safety of our staff. These guidelines and limitations include:
  • Maintaining a 6ft (2m) distances from anyone not within your household. We’re asking all of our boaters to be responsible, monitor their own self distance from others, and politely ask those that are too close to move away from them, or wait until the path is clear.
  • Arriving only with members of your household, and no guests at this time
  • Email or phone with any boating accessory requirements.
  • There are 3 public washrooms (facing the road) that will be the only ones open to our boaters for the time being. Please use onboard facilities if at all possible.
  • We ask that each person using the facilities disinfects all points of contact (toilet, faucet, soap pump, light switch, door knob, etc…) before and after using the washroom with the disinfected provided in each stall.
  • Keeping your hands as clean as possible, by washing regularly and/or using hand sanitizer.
  • Parking spaces are limited at the marina at the moment, as a large number of our boats are still currently on dryland awaiting your prep before launch.
The guidelines and limitations listed above may change once our parking lots are clear and the boating season is in full swing.

We will be giving our boaters a 1 week grace period for launch prep work next week. However, the sooner you’re ready the sooner we can launch your boat and the sooner you can all finally start enjoying the boating season.

The launch process will be different this year for those stored on our paved parking areas, since we do require use of our parking lot as soon as possible. A follow up email will be going out today or early next week letting our boaters know what our launch process and expectations will be.

We plan to commence full launch operations as of May 25, 2020. If your boat is ready and easily accessible please fill out the launch form and we can do our best to get you on the water ASAP. NOTE: If you’re already submitted your launch form, we will be in touch to confirm your launch date.

We’re very excited to see you all! Come quarantine on Georgian Bay!

I saw that... good sign... too bad they couldn’t have done it before the long weekend

Thats my point .... why does a week later matter ?
I am working at my desk and heading up north later tonight. I expect the marina will be JAMMED. 99% of the boats are blocked and shrink wrapped. Everyone will be in a mad rush to spring prep (me included). I am several rows behind other boats so I expect I have two weeks till launch.

That's good news. The border remains closed to non essentials until at least June 21st I think it is. Hopefully it opens in July so we can come up and visit. The yard that I store at has been open, but the weather has been terrible. Yesterday was the first nice day and it was a mob scene. Boats are going in, the marina where I slip opened today. Enjoy

Too bad weather is S#!T this weekend. At least out here.

Its the damn socialists. They somehow are controlling the weather to keep us home now.... (joke - Our Premier in Ontario, Doug Ford is very conservative)

Headed to the Marina tomorrow

Best news so far, now we just need the Border to open so we can hit up some of our favorite restaurants

Cheers

My lift is booked for tomorrow morning 8:00 AM. I am lucky to store on private property so I have been prepping the boat over the past several weeks. Bring on summer!

Went to the marina. They are starting to launch boats. It was much less busy there than I thought it would be. Got the preliminary prep for launch done. Batteries connected and charged, put the interior cushions back in place etc. I am second row from the back though so it might be a while.

Was checking systems to see if everything was good to go.Everything is checking out perfect. I turned on the head switch and the vacuum pump doesn’t run. I am thinking “crap” - well I guess I have a toilet fix to do. Nice. I go in the head, and try the pedal. And it flushes! Its been under shrink since end of October, and the vacuum held that entire time with zero leak down. I probably jinxed myself by posting this. So if anyone is wondering how often a head vacuum pump should cycle if it is not used. The answer is a bit longer than 6 months!

I am finally launched. Spent the day cleaning the top sides and sunbrella and flushing water tank/lines of the antifreeze and starting the spring bleach water system sanitizing routine. Was a perfect sunny mid 70s day to do that kind of work. Regretting not cleaning off the spider poop last fall before storage though. Much harder to get it off now. I plan on compounding and polishing the top sides later anyway, so no big deal. Will put 303 on the clean canvas later today after I finish working on the real job. Inaugural run will be tomorrow.

This is unfortunate as our boating has us back and forth across the border on a regular basis. Our trip to Georgian Bay this year (supposed to leave tomorrow) is now on hold because our friends from Arizona can't join us in Ontario.
In the long run though, it's best to be safe even if it means the boat is tied to the dock for the season.

Luckily the way we typically take longer trips on Georgian Bay involves anchoring and not marinas so that part does not impact us (as long as we can stop and buy fuel).
