One pound propane bottles

Is 1lb of propane leaked into your cabin really going to be a fire hazard? I'm not being a smartass, really curious. I had a squirrel chew through a propane line on my camper 2 weeks ago and a 30lb cylinder drained into my garage. My father -in-law walked in smoking a cigarette and didn't go boom. So I wonder what the concentration has to be. Yes, my garage is larger than a boat cabin. Yes, he scared the s^%t out of me. Hard lesson to turn off the tanks when not in use.
To answer the question, ours stay in an outside storage locker. Mike

I keep mine next to my lead paint, roll of Asbestos, Container of red food dye, Sharp scissors I use for running, and a open flame i always have burning.

Sorry just had to...

All good points above. I think the key here is to store where they can vent outside the boat and if they are rusting get rid of them.

Propane has an LEL of 2.1% and UEL of 9.5%

Anything less is too lean, and higher than 9.5 is too rich to burn.

Propane is heavier than air, it will accumulate in lower areas of the vessel and not dissipate easily.

A 1 pound propane cylinder is 8.66 cubic feet. If my math is correct, that’s enough to raise a 400 cubic foot area to right around 2.1%

In the words of Myth Busters, I’d say it’s plausible that a full 1 pound cylinder leaking it’s contents can create an explosive atmosphere in a properly sized enclosed area of a boat.

So the flame needs to be at the perfect height in the enclosed space and at the perfect concentration to ignite the propane? Kind of like the extinguish a lit match with gasoline?

I like the magma storage bag, so I think that's the solution I'll likely go with. It can strap on the rear rail and hang above the swim platform.

And if someone tries to put out a lit match with gasoline, I hope I have time to haul ass out of there!
