I have an Onan Gen MDKBL Diesel.

Where do I access the water pump to change out the impeller?

It calls for the Impeller/O ring Kit-132-0379. I believe I saw where that part number is superseded by 541-1519 and that is the one I have.

Any ideas on location and if I have the right one?

On the right portion of the genset, under that black cover, you can just see one of the water hoses. To confirm, follow the hose from your seacock/strainer to the Genny.

I've changed mine twice. I was taught to remove the pump from the generator and replace impeller up on deck. The hoses come off fairly easily. I can't remember if it is 2 or 3 bolts that hold the pump to the engine. If there are missing blades off of the impeller, you need to go look for them. The heat exchanger is around the back to the right.

A bit of a sketchy explanation, but it's the best I have.

Good luck.

I do not remove the whole pump to replace the impeller, bought a needle nose pliers with bent end, a lilttle wiggling and the impeller comes out.

I have the sound shield and took the front panel off today and just did not readily see it. The hose from the seacock goes all of the way around the front and enters on the left end. Thanks for the help. I will look closer tomorrow. I want to change the impeller and the anode. I just hope it is not on the back. Looking at the diagram, it looks to be on the front.... Thanks again!

Finally got back on this project and found the water pump. It looks much easier to remove the 2-bolts and take the whole water pump off with the impeller housing attached.

Question...when item 15 below is removed, does the shaft and the entire assembly and guts come out with it as a unit without falling apart?

Thanks,
Bennett
