With all this talk about batteries and winterizing and the fact that my 2 new Interstate batteries are sitting frozen in my boat, I am thinking of updating the on board charger in my boat. I figure the one in there is going on 14 years old. I'm sure the new chargers do a much better job of keeping the batteries topped off and not overcharging them.

Can anyone recommend a decent charger, something to replace the original? And preferabley something in the mid-price range...less than $500 would be nice.

Also if anyone knows anyone around Cape Cod/SE Mass that could install it that would be helpful. I'm not even going to try to mess with this thing. Thanks!

As long as the batteries were charged and are disconnected they will be fine until spring. If anything, leaving them on a charger in the boatyard would probably be a greater risk. That's assuming the boatyard will even allow it. Mine doesn't allow any unattended electrical hookups to stored boats. They are paranoid about fires.
