I am looking for an Old Norcold Power Supply Unit for my Norcold DE 401 Refrigerator. Short of that, can anyone suggest what I could get to replace this old refrigerator on my 2000 410 Sundancer?

I think I need to start working on these old units, these and Westerbeke govenors. I could retire and get a bigger boat.

Swanny, what makes you think the power pack failed?

No AC power at all to unit and DC blows fuse immediately. I found a new power pack for $589.00, but I want to be sure I can return it if that’s not the problem.

After the holiday, send me the part number off the power pack. Also test the transfer switch.

Once you get to a certain point in costs of the parts then it's time to be looking into a new unit. Mine has always been the halfway mark

Here is another way of looking at these old fridges. Replacing them is a PIA. So, if the cabinet is in good condition, consider replacing all of the internals no matter that it seems too high a price. You could end up with an appliance that still looks like new on the outside and is brand new on the inside. You will likely get another 10-12 years of service and not end up with something that while new is not quite right for the space. My fridge still looks brand new while it is 14 years old because we take good care of things. If you own a boat that has been similarly cared for, a refurbished Norcold makes perfect sense.

The Power Supply part # is: SP-201B. The fridge didn't work when I purchased the boat so I Ordered the compressor kit through West Marine. As it turned out, it just wasn't getting any power.

Check the thermostat assembly mine was a problem . I rebuilt it with spare parts I had in the garage a rheostat and switch I posted some stuff about that back in May

Mine will freeze the whole fridge now if I don't have the setting right and it's a 30 year old unit

I will look in the morning.

A good deal of folks have replaced their units, go to the parts for sale and see if any have kept the older units. It never hurts to ask.

Look at the power board, there is a glass fuse. Also be very sure you are getting power to the fridge and that it is the correct voltage, could just be a bad ground. Disconnect the fridge and check the power before the connection. Then you will know it's not in the delivery (power) side.

I'm sorry, I went out to the shop today and must have used the power supply. I will look on the boat on Wens

I’ll be tearing my old Nevercold out in the beginning of the year. If still in need, you can have any parts you need for the cost of freight.

Thanks much, but I'm beginning to think about buying a new unit altogether. I really appreciate all of the suggestions!

Let me know if you don't get any takers.

Did you ever get started tearing out your old Nevercold? I could sure use a power supply and thermostat. I would gladly buy them from you.

I can tell you how I replaced my 1999 400 DA fridge. I would suggest a new Vitrifrigo frig at $1500 instead of fixing the old Norlcold. New fridge cost about $1500 and we are very happy with improvement. Let me know if you need info.

Yes, I would appreciate more information. Did you have any issues getting it through the companionway?

The fridge will not fit thru the companionway. Half of the TV/fridge cabinet must be removed first. Remove TV and top of cabinet trim. Remove old fridge and place inside boat. Cut cabinet with fine tooth sabre saw at top, lower left side, and in the back near bottom. This allows half of the cabinet to be removed. Take out old fridge and bring in new. Reattach removed half of cabinet, install fridge and TV. Cuts you make to cabinet are not visible unless you know they are there. Good Luck.
