New to the forum. Just bought our third Sea Ray. So far, not so good. Couldn't find a surveyor that would return a phone call prior to purchase and we're paying the price now! The boat is 115 miles from home and no closer to making the trip than it was a month ago when we closed on it. Found the forum while searching repair/technical articles. Hope to have good news to post soon.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. What type of issues are you having? We just sold our boat and are starting our search. I will not buy one without a survey. We got lucky on our last boat (our first) and didn't have a survey done but in the 3 years we had it we sidn't have any issues at all. Might regret selling it...lol

Oh, to have our first Sea Ray again! Our first was a 93, 250 Express. We bought it from a dealer in 99 with 150 hours on it. It had been rack stored (no bottom paint) and the full canvas camper top had never been used. It was flawless. Our second was a 96, 300 Sundancer. We also bought it from a dealer. It needed a little cleaning but was otherwise a good boat. This boat was brokered and I could see that it had been neglected some but hoped that the issues were mostly cosmetic. So far I've found that both drives had water in the gear oil. A power steering leak. Broken VHF whip. Replaced a battery. Power trim problem as of yet I've not done any trouble shooting on. Idle speed overheating on one engine. And quite probably shift cable issues as the engines are stalling on shifting between neutral/reverse. UGH!
