I had my drives worked on mid fall last year. I ran the boat for about a month after the work.
This spring after sitting on blocks all winter my starboard drive was leaking slightly. I had no idea while it was in the water it was leaking.
I got lucky because it was a slow leak and I wasn't in the water long after the work. It could have ended in a blown drive.
My point is that if the drive is torn down and empty of fluid, it's prime time to pressure test. You can probably rig up a tester for $20.
It could save you a drive.
