I have an oil leak in my sundancer 270SE single engine cruiser. The leak seems to be under the motor close to the stern. Any ideas as to the source? Is there a drain plug in that location tha could be loose?

The drain plug is in the bottom of the oil pan sump. Unfortuantely, an oil leak's origin and where you see it may not be near each other. I would first try the valve cover gaskets and work down from there. Clean the area up by getting old oil gunk removed, so that you something clean to look at when the oil leaks. This may not be a lot of help, but it is not easy to find a leak sometimes.

I agree. Oil will run in the line of least resistance and your boat will run a bit bow high causing any leak to accumulate under the rear of the motor.

To really find out where the gusher is you are going to really need to clean the engine and bilge really well. You might consider having it steam cleaned (its probably overdue anyway, right?). It could be anything from valve cover gaskets to timing covers to main seals and everything in between. You might have even slopped some last time you added.

Clean it up really good then look again.
