Oil hoses that connect above oil filter - both leaking

Hello Club SeaRay!!!

We bought a 99 340DA in June and are loving it! We take good care of it - better than our kids (yes I am kidding). I noticed a fair amount of oil in the bildge yesterday on both sides. I checked the filters and they are dry but above the filters there are two oil hoses. One has a stainless (metal) wrapping around the end of the hose and has a skinnier metal piece that sticks out of it. Does the hose(s) need to be replaced? Isn't it odd they both went at the same time?

You can get the hoses made for you at a local rubber/hydraulic holes supplier. Sea Ray uses marine grade hoses with stainless fittings and brass sleeves crimped on the ends. You may need to get the hydraulic hose store to order marine fittings for you if they don't stock them.

Looks like there were replaced already with hyd hoses. Those fittings don't look like the oem lines.

OK so they need to be replaced, there is no fix? Hoses (2 on each motor) are about $400.

Are the OEM hoses better than the hyd(not sure what that means)?

You can sometimes cut the crimp off the old hoses and save the end. As Frank said go to a hose shop and have them made. I did and they were not $400.

I just replaced 2ea. 8ft. long x 1/2" hydraulic hoses on a Bobcat bucket and the total cost was $42. They weren't marine fittings but they weren't $400 either.

You would have to be very skilled and even luckier to re-crimp the sleeves to stop the leak on your hoses. Just get a hydraulic shop to make some new ones.

I'd first try reseating the ones that are leaking and if necessary get new ones made.
No need to use stainless fittings because, you can paint them after installing.

My local Napa auto shop made some for me $50 / hose complete.
