On my 88 model 5.7L/MIE/inboard, I am reassembleing the engine. Can someone tell me if the 1/2" thread hole directly above the oil remote (normally where you'd find the oil filter) is for a low pressure sensor?

Thanks

Yes. But it is 1/4 NPT, not a straight thread. You should have a wire that starts at a high temp sensor on the water circulating pump then around the motor in a counter clocwise fashion viewed form the top to this low pressure sensor then on to the back to a transmission temp sensor moutned on the top of the gearbox to the left of the top trans cooler line then back up to the wiring harness.

That's kind of what I thought. I found a sensor with 1/4" NPT thread in the pile-o-parts. Sure does make a mess if you prime the oil pump with that not in there.
