OIL CHANGE ON a 185

Hi guys,

I recently bout a 2001 Sea Ray 185. It currently has 110 hours, bougt it with 80

Question:

How ofter should I be changinf the oil ?

What kind of oil should I use? Brand? Weight?

What kind of Filter ? # if you know.

Does anyone have a thread that shows how to do an oil change on a 3.0 Mercruser ?

Is there anything else that I should be changing on a regular basis?

Common practice is either at the end or begining of the season... most say the end of the season. Also maybe a second change mid season based on usage. That motor calls for 25w40 Merc 4 stroke oil. Many say a good car oil in a 10w40 will surfice. Approx 4 quarts. Oil filter i am currently looking for the true fram alternative I've seen 4 differant filters be advised of... Look on youtube there is a video of how to change the oil via the pump method. Your boat may have the external tube on the oil pan to drain it via the drain plug if not sucking it out is the best bet. After much review the moeller pump is the best. Hope this helps...
