Official Searay 200 Thread

I posted this is the sport boats but I should also post here .. I purchased this '94 200 overnighter in Feb , it's a beautiful boat in wonderful condition . I'm based in Stillwater Mn and have a slip on the St Croix river. I did a bit of tricking her out to be my home away from home. I added the deckmate anchor system, which I love, the grill is my creation which is working out well. I also added some ac power via a 400 w inverter and some hot water with a rinsekit.
I have only one issue so far.. the trim gauge is intermittent, anybody have insights ? Its mostly stuck one way or the other but sometimes it works but never 100% . Having the boat in the water I'm not sure what I can do?

Nice boat, given the age likely your trim sender is on the way out or wires to it are frayed. Nit much you can do when its on the water good project for the fall
 
So far this season, three trips on the water to shake off winter.
1) sounded a little off in the barrel but I attributed that to being in a barrel with prop off. Changed the fuel separator, in-line fuel filter, gear lube, rebuilt fuel pump. Started right up, idled then up to 1200 fine. Didn’t push it higher. Grabbed a friend, and launched to test. Idled fine, left the dock at idle speed, out the channel. Died when I gave it gas. Primer bulb soft. Restarted and friend stayed on the primer while we headed back in. Fuel leak at the fuel pump. So I did a bad job. Took off fuel pump and dropped off at marina to have inspected and diaphragm and gaskets etc

2) installed rebuilt fuel pump, checked all the zip ties under coal around hoses, launched with my daughter and one of her friends. Left dock and channel at idle, hit the throttle and she picked up Rpm. Trimmed in to start to push her up to plane and she died. Bulb lost prime. Ok… changed trim out, moved passengers fore and brought her on plane with less inward trim. Did about 34miles around the lake with a swim stop between. At the mid point, I had the same problem running with to much trim in stalling. At this point I’m thinking that I haven’t replaced the bulb and lines from separator to bulb to outboard in about 5 years. Was rather thin walled lines so maybe the mueller bulb and line kit I used got soft and is either getting pinched or collapsing. Bought thicker walled 3/8 fuel line and replaced.

3) went out with same friend as first trip, another 30 miles and about 15 gallons of fuel. Still not running quite right but not cutting out. Remembered I didn’t change the spark plugs this spring. Head out from launch with boat on trailer and head to the storage place I started using close to the lake. Truck died. Grab the jump box and we managed to jump it three times to get the 3 miles to drop off the boat and called for a tow on the Tacoma. So last Saturday the Tacoma went bye bye and I should get it back tomorrow. No boating this weekend. But as soon as I can I plan on changing out the plugs and seeing it that gets me going. I also ordered a fuel pump kit that includes pump, all fitting, hose and ties. But that will be my last resort.
 
I had to replace my fuel primer bulb this year. It was taking 20 squeezes to fill the bulb. I replaced it with a Quicksilver primer bulb (Part No. 8M0061875) and now it only takes 4 squeezes to fill. I'm not sure how old my old primer bulb was (it was on the boat when I bought it), but the one way valve was definitely not working.

Regarding the trim, if you have a lot of weight in the back of the boat and trim in all the way the exhaust relief port could go under water. If that happens the engine will stall. You might not be able to use full in trim.

Since I can't use the Self Leveling tabs that I bought due to transom shape, I just installed a hydrofoil. Hoping that will help out a bit with stern lift. I actually bought a new bulb yesterday while I was out. I will remove and replace when I install the plugs. Won't be until I have the Tacoma back from its alternator replacement. When moving up to planing speed, I will start with the trim in motion at less than full in.

Also bought a Humminbird Helix 5 DI GPS. I haven't decided if I want to mount the gimbal bracket on the flat trim to the right of steering, or but a RAM mount with the gimbal base upper. I generally drive standing up, but I want to be able to rotate the screen to work in both positions. I'll still be able to use my Navionics that I like, but wont have to fight with using my phone as my charts.
 
Weather hasn’t been conducive to boating, but did get over the the yard after work Saturday to work on the boat. Walked my son through changing the spark plugs. My daughter pulled old sender wire and drilled the dash hole for routing the Helix cables. Changed the fuel bulb and got to the point where I only need to mount the new transducer and head unit. I forgot to bring sealant for plugging the old transducer holes though. At that point it was getting late and we packed it in to get dinner. Storms are due to last through the weekend but fingers crossed for Monday since I’m off. Almost snagged a like new steering wheel on Craigslist but missed it. Have to say the best part of the weekend was spending time with the kids on boat maintenance.
 
Just pulled the trigger on a couple of update items...

Bought a pair of stainless grab handles to mount either side of the rear bench. I never liked that their were none, especially with my "one hand on the boat at all times" rule.

Found a wood-look plastic and black foam comfort grip steering wheel to replace the 27 year original Teleflex one.

The original teal carpet is a bit stained in places and the pile is worn. Decided on purchasing the e-bay EVA foam 94"x35" rolls. It's cheap enough that I can dry fit it to check the looks before I adhere it. Trying to decide if I want to clean the glue off the sides where the carpet rises up and EVA that, clean up the fiberglass liner pretty, or do something else... The carpet also goes in the door/footwell at the front of the cockpit, up the bulkhead under the bench and around the sides of the base of the back-to-back seats. There are only two panels on the floor, large over the fuel tank, and small one for the in floor cooler.

Ordered a material kit to fill in a chip at the gunnel, and clear up a bit of spiderwebbing cracks.

Replaced a couple dry rotted rollers on the trailer. Looks like I could use to do the three keel rollers as well, but I need to measure to see if they are 10" or 12"

Lastly, I ordered a 1" braid reinforced clear, non-corrugated hose to put in the Rule 900LC I bought but never installed. I'm leery of drilling the hole for the new thru hull though. I will not be replacing the manual 350gph pump that is already there, but will be adding the Rule in autosensing/automatic mode as a backup. I haven't had any issue with a wet bilge, usually only a few drips when I trailer. I'm just paranoid but also a procrastinator on these updates.

Hopefully I remember before and after pics.

Can you tell me about the "one hand on the boat at all times" rule?
 
Carryforward from sailing days. Rule on board was to always have one hand on the boat, whether the hull, strap, grab bar, etc. While I don't experience 30 degree or greater heeling over in the Sea Ray, I still make the kids/inexperienced passengers keep a firm grasp on the boat. Life preservers are great, but staying inside the boat is better.

Got it, don't know your boat so I wasn't sure where you were installing the handles.

Right there at the rear bench seat, on either side. Probably at the top corner of the storage insert. Be easy to get a backer plate in there and do up the nuts.

The photo is a couple years old, but shows the location I was referring to. That bench also had new base and foam material added.

otherwise I believe it is all original.

I have a 1993 200 OV with the three tops including the camper top and frame My boat was in storage for most of its life see my previous post the camper canvas is in great condition and has screened windows and the clear vinyl windows, if anyone is interested please let me know. Here in South Texas I really need a Bimini Top not a black camper top!
 
I just bought my first boat, a 2007 Sea Ray 200 Select with 73 hours on it! I have only test drove it the day I purchased it so far so I'm sure Ill have a ton of questions later as I spend more time with it, but for now I'm looking for a rear view mirror. I looked on Amazon but most comments complained about the fit or screws scratching the windshield frame so I don't want that! Can anyone recommend a mirror that fits the 200 without drilling holes or scratching the frame?

In case anyone is planning a long trip, here's my experience. I went for a 44 statute mile trip this past weekend (Bordentown, NJ to Essington, PA). The trip was 1.5 hours on plane at 4000 rpm and 2.1 hours overall. The fuel burn was 15.3 gallons. This matched with my theoretical fuel burn of 9 gallons per hour at 4000 rpm (9 x 1.5 = 13.5 plus 1.8 for idle time).
