Official Cummins QSC-500 Thread

So each "Y" end goes to each Port/Starboard hub. But where does the other end go to?
It plugs into the NEMA 2000 multi enigne gateway. Kim (Mercury support tech) says that way the new gateway will get the can signal correctly???? We will see.

I have all of my data running into my MFD's and haven't looked at my vessel view yet this year. Any one else opting for this option?

I am trying but the new mercury gateways seem to have some software glitches I am finding out first hand. I have to say their support has been great but there is a little "dart throwing" when it comes to solutions. Since the word "Cummins" seems to be a four letter word to them...but they are willing to try and always call back.

What MFD's do you have. We have raymarine 16 G series and it was plug and play.

Raymarine A series 12" Lighthouse II running v19 software. It plugs and plays but issues with data drop out on one side with gateway plugged in. The drop out is feed to MFD's, round gauges and Diesel View. Also lose control of "engine off" switch. Unplug gateway, switch works and shut down and restart with gateway connected and everyhting works (but MFD feed of course) They told me that have seen issues with the round gauges dropping out with the current gateway software but have not heard of loss of engine off switch. This only happens to one bank, which ever hub the gateway is plugged into. Not they had me install a y harness as they think there is an issue with the can code that is causing an issue.

Interesting... We had the back light go out on our vessel view and some how this was causing loss of data feed to the vessel view and guages. This is when led me to explore the MFD option. once we bypassed the vessel view all the issues went away.

We have sense replaced the vessel view but I haven't used it since the data is on the MFD's

Zach - Any chance you could document your "before equipment" and then your "New installed items with install details/parts and P/N's"? It sounds like you have some stuff figured out for those of us not getting gauges working and smartcraft data..

Zach, I sort of did what you did with a gs16 and using the STNG and Mercruiser gateway to get data on the MFD. I had the problem with no fuel indication on the #2 tank which we worked around but now I cant figure out how to get the fuel totalizer function to work IE the total fuel remaining function. I still use the DV panel for engine info actually as I prefer to have the nav screen in full panel view while cruising. I do need to replace the screen on it though as it is losing its contrast in direct sun light.

Has anyone actually found someone to "replace" the whole screen on the DV? I had mine "fixed" by a guy off ebay where he replaced some film that made it so you can read it but is still sucks. It needs the whole display replaced as the LCD has lost is "power" and is very dim.

The current light house software we are running monitors the fuel consumption and calculates fuel available from there. Being inland we don't have the opportunity to run far enough without access to fuel so this has proven accurate enough thus far.

We replaced our VV 1.5 with another used unit. If we start planning a significant long trip we would look to improve on the fuel monitoring. We should still have our manual gauges for fuel since we replaced the failed VV 1.5.

The part we needed for the J-box into the MFD was this one

I have the same issues only show level on tank 1 on the MFD but the original gauges and fuel management on the MFD have sufficed thus far.

Zach, the way I use the boat I really don't need the fuel management totalizer either as we rarely go more than four hours away form home port. I just hate it when I have a system installed that doesn't work even if I don't use it. I posted earlier how I got the system to recognize and read two as tank three but have not figured out how to re-label the tank.
Cheers

You can try https://maxmarineelectronics.com/ but they are rare to come by these days.

On my ES127 I went to the tank page and in the menu went to edit. Held a finger over the tank I wanted to rename and edit came up with re-name as an option. I don't know if your MFD is the same but on the ES 127 and Axiom I needed to go through the fuel set up page and tell it when the tanks were filled before the fuel management would work.

Thanks, I’ll try that. I’m gonna go top off later today before our new $.55 per gallon tax kicks in. Currently fuel is selling for $3.20/gallon. Supposedly off road fuel is not subject to the tax but it’s charged up front and you have to jump through hoops and red tape to get it refunded. Just another good reason to call Californication the place I used to live!

There was a guy on here a time or two that fixed the LCD portion of these things very reasonably. I have his email/number saved somewhere, but for the life of me, I cannot find it yet. He is in Ft. Lauderdale I think.

I will keep looking.

Found it:

Hello thanks for reaching out to me. My first thoughts to you are to try to adjust the contrast plus or minus some to dial in the screen a little bit better. I can see it is still able to be read quite clearly. Those screens even brand new are difficult to see somewhat. They are a poorly made display unfortunately.

It would be difficult for me to say how much better you would be able to see the screen now vs after my repairs.

I typically repair screens that are gone or blanked out completely.

If you are still interested in having me attempt to brighten up the screen, my repair costs are 200. I am Not sure how much shipping would be to and from your location.

This is the email I sent him along with a pic of mine. Try him and see what he says.....

here is a new one for me anyway, I decided to float over to the fuel dock today to top off before a price hike. I fired up and went down to the deck to cast lines and noticed a black ring on top of the water around the starboard exhaust port. The substance did not seem oily as it did not leave a sheen on the water as oil would. I hypothesized that it may have been carbon soot. It did not continue as I proceeded thru the marina and after fueling when I fired back up to return to my slip it did not appear. I just made a 6 hour trip last weekend with the first hour long leg running at 18 knots. The rest of the 5 plus hours was at 10 to 12 knots. Im wondering if I shook loose some soot that washed out of the exhaust after sitting a week. Any one seen this before? Ill keep an eye on it each time I start now.

No, but it certainly sounds like soot.
