Official Cummins 6cta 450C thread

Don't grind on that block - you'll never get anything to seal again. After getting the plug out wire brush it to bare metal then either set a new plug in with Aviation Form-A-Gasket or install an expanding plug. Most likely you will find the engine block to be in good shape where the plug is.

Yes, was not going grind. Just use wire or a small abrasive ball. Agree, where plug is should be clean.

Sorry I was driving and didn’t get a good look at the pic….. @ttmott might be right once you get the plug out you might have a good surface

Hi Folks,
I had the fun of the air intake grid heater solenoid staying on today and it got hot. Is there a fuse I can pull the prevent it from operating in teh future? if so, where? Picture(s) would be very helpful.

Thank you!

I saw that and again, even though I have the new souped up 6CTA8.3 called the 480CE, the fuse is not where it shows on that picture.
can you post a pic of the wiring you have around your grid heater solenoid?

Thanks everyone for your kindness in trying to help me. I will be back to the boat Wednesday and will look around more. Thank you.

Got the heater grids disconnected. Don't know what mechanic did and really doesn't matter. Long as they aren't doing what they were doing previously ---- up/down crazy gyrations of 12-14 volts (rinse/repeat). LOL. I installed the wolverine pan heaters..... Thanks again everyone for trying to help me.

my alarm goes off occasionally and all searay systems says normal. Any thoughts on this? 6cta 2004

Occasionally, my oil pressure drops below the 10 PSl switch momentarily when I bring the engines back to idle and the buzzer goes off for a few seconds and the recovers. 6CTA 450s, all mechanical.

So, if you ever have to replace the coolant vent hoses that go to the exhaust manifold cap and turbo, I had them made at NAPA today. Also, had oil feed lines for the turbo built. Total cost $235. Would have been $640 had I ordered OEM.

my oil pan drain fittings to the hose going to Reverso pump needs replacing. It's a 90 degree into a straight fitting going into pan. I'd like to replace all the pieces to the hose as rusting. Can someone give me parts to look for?
Thanks

Actually, I was incorrect on where that hose connected to.
It goes from the side of oil pan to the bottom of the air filter can, I'm assuming collecting oil and returning to pan.
I looked up the parts on Cummins website and it shows that hose and fittings, but it labels all of it as one part and the picture of part number does not match and it's very pricey for all of it. I'll try to contact cummins directly and see if they can further break down the parts and confirm all.
Thanks
