Here is what you need.

Also, I've been using aluminum from Performance Metals. They work in all water, and best of all they have wire in the center that prevents you from loosing the anode, especially the aftercooler anodes.

You are doing the baselining right!
You'll have a couple of worry free Cats.
BTW - there is no way to get water into the intakes unless the aftercooler has failed. You'll have to work hard to put it together wrong.
Didn't you have a problem with a corroded freeze plug on one of the turbos? How did all of that come out?

This boat was a California dock queen, apparently all her life with only 435 hours on her at purchase.

PO was good with oil changes and zincs, but less than attentive regarding cooling system maintenance and other PM matters.

I arrived at the boat day before survey and found paperwork left onboard that showed repairs to freeze plug at bottom of turbo done twice, the second time with epoxy.

CAT engine survey coolant samples showed the coolant was past its life expectancy and that the stbd turbo was beginning to pass oil.

1. freeze plug leaked (likely rusted through)
2. CA mechanic replaced freezeplug, but it still leaked
3. mechanic installed freezeplug #2 with epoxy, claiming the freezeplug "hole" was damaged.

Tom Mott recommended Dave at DMS Turboblueprinters in West Palm Beach. Dave looked at the turbo and said he could likely clean it up and replace the freeze plug.

Turbo was rebuilt and I reinstalled it. I chose not to paint the turbo CAT white, but went with VHT high temp paint instead.

Photos below.

Thanks Tom, for the lead on DMS Turboblueprinters !

I read on here to use a 3/4 16 tpi 1 1/2 bolt to remove the raw water impeller. I have checked Home Depot, Lowes and Amazon for one, no luck. Is this thing a Unicorn? :) I found some that were $12 each. Seems a tad high to me.

3/4-16 is a standard UNF thread. Shouldn’t be that hard to find. 1-1/2 might be difficult. Maybe add a nut or two to make a 2” down to a 1-1/2?

I made my own impeller tool out of 3/4"-16tpi all thread rod then imbedded a small socket in the end so it can be driven by a racket. It will pass all the way thru the impeller and make impeller removal a snap.

I have 2…..one that fits a 3/8" rachet and one for a 1/4" rachet. Unfortunately they are temporarily lost in "boat left-over, never-never -land in one of many boxes of stuff in Florida or my shop in Tennessee……..they will turn up soon.

I thought the only source for a new turbo for 3126's was CAT, as it is proprietary to CAT (at least for some period of time). If this is the OEM replacement, that's good news.

Regarding replacing all hoses/clamps while the after cooler is off: I talked to CAT about this, they sent me a diagram and said "tell us what you need". Having never done this before I have no idea which ones I need. I read others on here purchased bulk hose and clamps. If I go with the later, what size/type of hose and the same questions for clamps.

Thanks
