I did several with the Trojan 10 Meter International as a result of being a highly active FORUM member.

Lots of interest in how well she ran with the 6 cylinder Yanmars.

I did enjoy meeting and entertaining several like-minded, boat obsessed folks like myself, and learned a lot as a result.

Sorry for a very late reply but my tablet or the app was preventing me from logging on.

The Glendinng tool to align the brackets is very easy to use and very inexpensive, under ten bucks. The Glendinng folks have always been most helpful. They recommend a dap of molybdenum grease on the small spring looking flywheel connection every year. I am overdue to order a pair of spares.

I removed both belt guards as I am almost never in the er with the engines running, especially by the front ends. However reading here I may reinstall the port cover if I can figure out how.

Spring connection is between the flywheel and elbow with a grease fitting at the large mounting bracket. They can break so spares would be nice though mine have never given any trouble. Keeping them aligned and both ends greased helps them last longer.

A lot of these boat use a Glendinning engine synchronizer. It a mechanical device connected to the fly wheels of each engine, and matches the RPM by adjusting the throttle at cruise. The connection are via cables that look like old speedometer cable. Old school simple.

@Maybe A Dancer - I would think you have this installed on your boat. Typically a switch on the dash labled SYNC or ENG SYNC would be the give away.

Yup, I have this as well, and never even knew it until the engines survey revealed it was not working.

    My mistake

When NJ Larry mentioned the tool and grease fittings for the Glendenning, I was thinking about the Cablemaster - LOL

By the way, I did not use the alignment tool, did it by feel, then observed with the engines running, all seems fine

absolutely love the synchronizer feature. Didn't have it on the last boat.

From reading here I went with Nissan Paris White to repaint the aftercooler covers. As you can see in this video it's more creamy, buttery looking, than the other areas. Where did I go wrong:

Quick question here versus a new thread - I was pleasantly surprised today to find our Hurth/ZF HSW800-V2 referenced as the alternative PN to the ZF85-IV

I understand the ZF85 fixed some issues with the countershaft and is the preferred replacement to the ZF80 (which I always thought we had)

does anyone know for sure if the HSW800-V2 is the ‘improved’ model?

Yes - The port gear on my 400DA was replaced with a ZF85-IV. The 85 case is significantly improved eliminating the weak counter shaft bearing housings. It's that countershaft that the port gear runs on that fails on the HSW gears. The ZF85 also operates at a higher hydraulic pressure fully eliminating the risk of the clutches slipping. Dimensionally they are the same. The gear ratios are microscopically different if I remember correctly but to nothing noticeable. The HSW800 is not the same as the ZF85.

well I’ll consider ourselves lucky! My understanding is the 2002’s (our year) for the most part did not get them so we’re fortunate in that regard. Our ratios show 1.644 versus the 1.6 listed on the v1 variant

interesting on the shifting pressure as well. I stumbled across this info because I just ordered pressure gauges and senders, so we’ll see where they’re operating

    Greg,

This is how Nissan Paris White should match Caterpillar Matterhorn White. This is the only photo I could find and I think it was taken in about 2018 and the paint was about 3 years old at the time. The engines were about 20 years old when that photo was taken…….I am pretty sure the valve covers were original and had not been repainted other the to touch up the bolt heads with an artist brush after we reset the overheads. If you guys (and Tom!)are looking closely, the port transmission was replaced with a new ZF 85-IV in 2009.

I'm pretty sure your off color paint mis-match is from mixing the paint improperly. I bought the Paris White from an auto body paint and supply store who makes their living matching paint to existing factory paint on autos. I bought it in quarts and kept some on hand to touch up any surface rust spots. Every quart matched perfectly.

Sorry it didn't work out for you………...

Thanks, Franks. I purchased it from a reputable online auto paint store, but you never know I guess. My engines, minus what I painted, look whiter than your photo. Yours looks closer in color to what I painted.

PO of my 380 ran the port transmission hot, so I have a new updated ZF 85-IV on that side.

Mine are definitely a brighter white as well, I have been looking for a really close match as well. The CAT stuff is ok, but still not great. IMG_4710.jpg
