Official Aftica Stereo Install thread...

Ken, you should be able to rock the boat with your setup.

Thanks Bottom line.

Quick update... Got the wires run and hooked up to the speakers........

HOLY SH! T....

Is it possible too much bass reflex could crack gelcoat?LOL

This is a great thread and you have done a fantastic job documenting the process, glad it is working and meeting, or better yet exceeding your expectations.

Only one problem though... you have done such an exceptional job on the installation that you have set the bar so high for me on doing my own install that I am doomed to fall short!!!

Seriously though you have provided me with a higher level of inspiration to achieve a better install on my own project.

Thanks for sharing!!!

Jay Bird, Thank you and I do hope that this thread helps someone else with their project...

***Update***

Well, after a long day of running cables and finishing everything up I was able to get some sound through the system...

Here are a few pics of all the wires I was fishing through the boat. I used over 150' of 12 gauge speaker wire for 5 speakers...

To help run the wires I bought two 10 foot lengths of plastic conduit. One piece was 1.5" and the other was 1". This made the running of the wires much more simple.

I ran a connection for the NMEA2000 network over to the port side bulkhead for future expansion.

Of course everything was labeled.

I ran the wires for the speakers into the amp and cleaned them up as well...

I ran them away from the power and ground wires to keep the noise interference down.

Next came time to mount the 10" sub. I marked out the locations from the inside of the cabinet to make sure that I would have room. Then I cut a template on the laser at work to use to place everything nicely.

Circle drawn here we go with a huge hole in my boat.

I left room because I do plan on putting in a second 10" sub because I am over powering the one I have now pretty well.

One of the best things I have on the boat is the built in vacuum. I love this thing and use it all the time. So handy.

Here's a peak at the inside of the cabinet.

again I left the wires long so I can add a second sub down the road to help distribute some of the power.

Now the next new toy...

Garmin 741xs.

With the new NMEA2000 network I have full control over my AV700 head unit in the cabin.

I did spring for the Upgraded vision card. I will have more info as I get familiar with it.

We worked hard Thursday and Friday. Got the stereo buttoned up and started on the other electronics. We hit a stopping point because no one knew how to hook up the new Standard Horizon gx2200 to the 741xs. I will work on that this coming week. We took Aftica out for a shake down cruise Saturday night because the weather was beautiful. She ran great and I couldn't have been happier. I was pretty wore out from this entire install but the few hours I spent on the water was so worth it! Also, I had very high hopes for the outcome of the sound system... As I said earlier I was completely blown away with how it turned out. I can control everything from my smart phone a 100 yards away and I can hear it crystal clear at full volume. I will get some decibel readings for you next weekend. She sounds fantastic! Stay tuned I'll update what I find out on the 741xs + GX2200 fiasco as I go.

Thanks for checking it out.

Jason
System sounds good was glad to meet up with you again. Looking forward to seeing the flooring done.

Doug, It was a pleasure meeting you guys again as well.

Joe,
Thanks,

I am buttoning up the instal this weekend by reinstalling my steps. It's been a long project but I can't say enough about the JL clarity. When we were at the islands this past weekends Jess even commented that other boats sound terrible now. I told her that's why I took my time and did it right. JL is the way to go in my book!

Taking your time is the answer to a lot of projects get in a hurry and things go wrong.

Great job Jason! and awesome write up. So many times on the forums you see people start documenting their project and then disappear. Its nice to see one through to the final product. You mentioned that you were going to make a list for insurance, I would love to see the list of all the components and prices if you ever feel like sharing. Once again, great job! Thanks

Thanks, I really love my set up. I have a few tweaks yet to do to add on. I'll update this when I do the rest. I am ashamed at what I have spent this year on the boat. I could have bought a nice vehicle or brand new Polaris ATV but meh... I did it because I love it. I highly suggest the JL stuff... GOOOOOOD SOUND!

Jason, I was reading the manual on the Fusion, and just read your thread on the install. Nice job, looked like a fun project.

Really nice job, I have to have great tunes and a good sound system on the boat. Luckily the boat we purchased was wired for sound. Enjoy!

What kind of AM/FM Reception do you get?
I dock at Harbor Park Marina West Harbor Catawba Is. near you, did a signal amplifier work?
I am considering the AV700 or the AV700i.
Do you have any regrets or any thoughts of a do over?

I added a 6ft fm Antena and ha e no problem with reception. I would install another fusion in a heartbeat I am very happy with the set up.
