Official 400EC thread

Hi Talon,

I think I've got similar problems with my port engine. I'm thinking about pulling the heads myself and had a couple of questions for you:
1. I'm assuming that you did this with the engine in the boat and boat in the water, is that correct? Yes, and yes.
2. How difficult is it to get at everything? Can you get a torque wrench in there, etc. I can handle pulling and replacing the heads if I have access. I was able to get a torgue wrench everywhere except one of the intake manifold bolts on the right side close to the plenum.
3. Any other tips that you might have?
Must have patience, and endurance!

Icemaker or Refrigerator? Hey guys I really need a little help with this issue. We've pretty much decided that we'd prefer to have a refrigerator in the cockpit, but I'm having a very difficult time finding something that will fit. My measurements say that I have at most 19 1/4" from the drain fitting under the sink and everything that I'm finding is at least 20.5" tall so there would be interfernce. Has anyone come up with a good solution to this?

Wow, and it’s at least $600 cheaper than the marine units

Has anyone modified the cabinet to make more space? I'm thinking that the molded in sink could be cut out and replaced with a shallow basin sink which might give me the extra clearance required.

My cabinet was enlarged just enough to except the Insignia 1.7 cu. ft refrigerator from Best Buy.

How does that refrigerator do in the heat of summer?

On the topic of the Weaver davits, I just sold my dinghy and have:
  • A couple of sets of davits including the quick release mountings. One set is regular (worked great with my BRIG 310), the other set is 3-4" rise.
  • A transom mount for outboard storage on the swim platform.
They're just taking up space in my garage, let me know if anyone needs any of it and we can figure it out.
Cheers, Simon.

CO Detectors - Can anyone tell me or better yet post pictures of where the factory CO detectors were installed on mid 90's 400EC. i would like to replace the residential style plug-in detectors that PO installed on my boat marine 12V detectors currently on sale at West marine.

I have one in the salon, mounted above the TV, and one in the V birth (sorry, no pictures). I've replaces both of the OEM "wired" units with new CO detectors that I purchased at Home Depot that have a ten year battery life.

I got round to finishing a project at my boat, and thought I'd share in case it was of interest to others. Our boat had canvas shades over the skylights, and as the canvas had shrunk over time, they had become a little difficult to remove and re-fit, plus it was a little bit of a hassle to go topside every night/morning to remove and refit them. So I decided to make some interior shades (I know that roller shades are available, but I thought they were a bit expensive) that were easy to fit and remove, and looked good. I used Aluminum sign board which is basically 2 thin aluminum sheets sandwiching a plastic core, and had it water jet cut to size. It's installed with some adhesive magnets on the skylight frame, and adhesive metal plaques (the type used on phones with magnetic car mounts) on the shade. You can see the results below.

I still have the carpet. ... do you have interest? What do you think it's worth. I can roll it out and send pictures.
Thanks. Tony

Send me some pictures too!!
