Official 400EC thread

Boat should be here in a week to 10 days. Survey this Tuesday, if goes well, boat here a week after that. My first fix in the salon entry slider. Not sliding!! Takes 2 hands to move it. Drags, grinds, etc. my question, does SR make a door, hardware repair kit?
thx

Welcome and good luck with the boat! I have the same boat and love it.

i have not seen a repair kit for the door, but if you look through this thread you may see some comments about repairs for it.

If you have any questions, just ask away. There are plenty of knowledgeable people on this site.

Ok, here we go. Need help. Survey came back with 18 issues. Some I could handle, others concern me. Stringers in bilge and rear salon show moisture. Forward deck, around windlass soft and he called it core wet. Stated windlass should not be used until repaired. Soft areas center of swim platform and brackets. Gen, so so. 42 hrs. Engines great. (280 hrs.) figures. Rudders stiff. Port shaft frozen at stuffing box. Ref works on 110 only. So, before you all say, run away, all the boats out there, 94/95 are in the 50 to 90k price range. I offered 20k BEFORE the survey. It was accepted. The concern I have is resale a few years down the road. I looked at this boat 2 weeks before the survey. It's rough cosmetically, buff, clean, etc. would be a real nice boat. Stringers are scaring me. Any comments or suggestions? Have to arrange for shipping in 24 hours. Thx

You may be looking at dumping more into the boat than you will pay for it. If you are prepared for that, get quotes on the stringer repairs.

Hi Mark, wondering if you have seen my post about my survey. Any tricks anyone know about stingers. I ended up buying that 94 400 ec. How,s 17 k sound?

17K .... ! Wow...run it and have fun.

The stringers are wood cored and if rotted out, would need to be fixed.
Repairing the stringers could be a minor or MAJOR fix, depending on how moist your talking...?
I mean is the whole inner wood core rotten and they're just hollow fiberglass shells?
Or, is a little water wicking in near bolt/screw holes???

Either way you have a lot if boat for little money.....

Your in CT? ... I may know the boat you bought...PM me about it.

Well, a winter project is underway. I am having a shop I have used before make a new camper canvas for the boat and do the upholstery in the cockpit. As the current canvas is full of mold and the cockpit seats are ripping, it is time for both. The shop is even redoing the side panels, so I spent most of today starting to disassemble some of the more difficult panels.

seems like someone signed their work when assembling my boat.

i also want to replace the carpet while we are at it. Question for the group: for those of you who have carpet, do you have a single piece in the cockpit or do you have multiple pieces? What I am asking about is accessing the rear hatch above the generator. I currently have a single carpet that I have to move completely to access the rear hatch. I am debating having the new carpet made with a cut out made for the rear hatch and wanted to know if anyone else has that arrangement and what you think about it. I like the sound deadening that comes from the full carpet, but would like a little easier access. What does everyone think?

Greetings fellow EC owners! Just recently purchased a '95 400 EC. This is my first boat and I love it so far! Starting to do some safety work neglected by the previous owner by replacing navigation lights, horn, etc.

I was going to replace the bulbs in the spotlight. However, I discovered the bulbs were missing and I don't have the documentation for the spotlight to properly identify the type of bulbs to purchase. Does anyone happen to know the spotlight manufacturer, model, and bulb type for this boat (and year, if applicable)? Any help is greatly appreciated.

On a different note, does anyone happen to have pictures (or wouldn't mind taking pictures) of their cabin door lock?

I had to take mine to a locksmith as the previous owner didn't have the key and the strike plate is also missing. The locksmith said the lock I brought in wasn't the original door lock. He said it was a patio door lock that, ironically, stopped being manufactured ~20 years ago. As for the strike plate he suggested to create one. But, it would be great to get a better idea of what I need to create based on the pictures from the kind folk on this thread. :smt001

Here are some pictures of mine. Look familiar to anyone?

the lock in your pictures looks like the same lock that I have on my 1994. The strikeplate is a simple small U shapped metal loop that the lock mechanism hooks around. (It looks like a small version of the inside door handle)
I will try to take a picture tonight if you need one.

Thank you very much. This gives me a good idea. I'm thinking it's like the eye of a hook and eye latch? If you're able to take that picture and share that would be great!

Here are some pictures I took. I hope they help.

Thank you so much! Those pictures are perfect. Looks like a part I'll have to make. But, at least I know what I need to do.

You are welcome. My only problem is that in the close up picture I can now really see that I have some painting to do on that door frame!

Well, reupholstery project is underway. All of the seats have been removed and the side panels as well.
Now I have some additional projects that have come about as a result. Some of the wood behind these panels have rotted completely out, so it is time for some new shelves, supports and backing plates. This also gives me a chance to run new wiring for a nav light on the radar arch and clean up the existing runs. Also gives me better access to the autopilot pump and panels so I can check why the autopilot does not work. I also plan on adding another 110v outlet. I am going to mount it in the compartment on the port side near the icemaker.

It it is amazing how one thing leads to another......
