Fuel quandary

So, today was Day 1 of the Illinois to Florida boat move. Besides the challenges of waking up to 200' vis in dense fog and full trees in the channel, I have a fuel quandary. After running from Peoria, IL to Alton, IL-I found my Starboard fuel gauge reading only 35.6 gals of fuel, while my Port gauge was showing 49.7 (even though the fuel burn on the port engine was running slightly (.3) higher. So, I fuel up at Alton and Starboard tank takes 87.07 gals and the Port takes 87.02 (ran genny for a couple of hours). I thought the Starboard gauge was reading incorrectly, but now I believe that I've deduced that ACTUALLY, the Port was showing too much. Cmon Sea Ray detectives...get to work and help me solve this crime.

The Portside tank is about 10 gallons larger than starboard.

okay, I'll bite. Dieselview says they both have 136.9 (after the top off) in them right now...How do I change that to read 143 and 135 respectively?

In diesel view.....go to Settings...then tank configuration...you then set the value for 100% full for each. Port is 145 and STBD is 130. Set the values right after you fill each....this is one calibration method.

Two of my three units have had the pan replaced. Looking to do the cockpit unit in the future. What a terrible design/build on behalf of Dometic. I ended-up replacing the mid-cabin unit with a TURBO series and sold the old unit after refurbing it completely and taking care of the rusty pan.

Gerry-

I was thinking of the turbo unit as well.....was it pretty much an easy swap...putting the fridge removal aside and bottom stair tread removal to get the fridge out. Is the Turbo unit quieter? What size did you go with? If I have two complaints of the stock A/C units, it's the drip pan and somewhat noisy compressor when running A/C or heat.

I paid extra for the compressor shield option. It is much quieter than the stock unit. I found the stock unit to be unbearably loud especially at night. I'm probably more sound sensitive than most as my family had less of an issue with the noise.

Gerry, Frank, anyone...I need a new engine moun/isolator for my 2005 390DA QSB 5.9 380(364). The vulcanized rubber has separated somewhat. It's the Port engine inboard towards stern (left front of engine)
Please provide me a part number ( I think 3349230) and any installation nuances. Thanks!!

Nothing??? Well, I ordered the 3349230. My plan is to lay some wood on the floor under the front, Jack up the motor to neutralize the pressure, remove the mount adjust the nuts on the new one to match, then replace. Anyone have any other tips?

Welcome to CSR. Great boat.
We need pictures.

Thinking about upgrading from a 2005 320DA to a 2005 390DA. The 390 has 245 hours fresh water hard top gasser. For the owners out there in a boat 10 years old what else should I look at and
check out. What problem areas or anything special I should for. Cosmetically it looks kept up well. Canvas is brand new this year, new carpet runners two years ago. No rips or tears in any of the seats.

thanks in advance.

I had a 2004 390 8.1L for a couple of seasons. At a minimum the aluminum risers along with the manifolds should have been changed out by now. When I bought it used I had the engine computers down loaded as part of the survey and this will show all the history on the engines and how they were run. If I remember correctly I ran the engines at about 3,500 RPM and got 21MPH when cruising. I felt the engines were just enough for the boat since it was 19,300 pounds dry weight. It had a nice ride too. If you want to PM me I can tell you what I didn't like about the boat. Nothing serious, just things I didn't like and I'm certainly in no way bashing the boat on this forum since it is a good boat.

Hello to All on the 390DA Thread-

I am new to this thread as of last July. I sold my 2006 340DA and now have a 2005 390DA......gas 8.1 HO gas.....second owner. I boat in the Lake St. Clair, MI area. We were boatless for 3 weeks last year, but happy to have spent some time on the 390 before putting away for the winter. I did have time to notice some operational things last year and have some notes to follow up on this season. I look forward to consulting with other fellow 390 folks for advice, etc.

It's an incredible boat. We came from a 310 and were in the market for a 340 until I inquired on our current 390. It was in the midst of winter when I went to view the boat and boy was it love at first sight......... What 340.......the boat looked great, ran great, and the seller was VERY MOTIVATED. Needless to say Done Deal.

We have greatly enjoyed the boat and always look forward to Saturday when we head to the lake for the weekend.

Overall very satisfied. Sea Ray did I it again. One thing I really try to not think about is the generator. I can't stand how loud it is. We used to stay out on the lake on the 310 but we're running a WEBSTERBEKE instead of the klunker Kohler. The Kohler is quite loud for me. I replaced the muffler and saw a minimal difference. I look forward to installing an isolator mat under the whole generator and some sound proofing. And if that doesn't work might give me an excuse to start looking for a 48 Sundancer.

The cockpit amp on our 04 is located behind the storage area by the helm seat, remove the 4 screws, remove the plastic storage thing & look inside upper rear. Good Luck

I do not believe that mine is there on my 05. Both amps are behind the couch in the Salon

We're loosely looking at the 2005+ 390 hard top as our next boat. I've told myself our next one will be diesels. What are the pro's and con's of the 390 with 8.1 over the diesels? We boat in fresh water on Georgian Bay, out every weekend with a trip or two a season of a week or so.

Molson,

I tried to send you a PM , but your mail box has exceeded it's capacity. Let me know when you have space and I'll send you some pros and cons on the 390 in a PM.

Al
