Official 390DA Thread

Halon is being or has been discontinued as far I know, so I don't think you can charge it. I had my system replaced at the beginning of the season. Not cheap.

Over the years I've purchased anodes from many different sources including cheap ebay sites as well as expensive dealerships. The source I would recommend is boatzincs.com. They've been there for a long time, have great service and very competitive prices.
You'll need a standard hull anode as well as anodes for the trim tabs and shaft. Also for your bow thruster if you have that option. The hull anode is a very critical component of your boat so do not take it for granted. I buy the 'heavy duty' version from boatzinc.com Check them 2x per year and change when they are 1/2 gone. I had the one on my heat exchanger blow-up inside the exchanger. Made a mess of the thing after I took it apart to clean it out. Engine was overheating on me as a result.

Gerry, I've found all but the trim anodes. Do you have a part number? Thanks!

Thanks Gerry, I thought mine were disk shaped. Hmmm, I better go take another look

Thats what i have been hearing. who replaced it for you ? did you have to go to SeaRay ? about how much was it ?

Carmelo- the Halon tank can be replaced by a company who does fire suppression systems. Get a quote as there are quite a few fire extinguisher service places out there. Mike

Escapade is correct but worthwhile to investigate the cost to recharge with recycled halon(the only halon still available post the ban on production of new halon). I tried but just couldn't find a supplier at a price point that made sense. Perhaps I didn't try hard enough. In the end, I went with FM-200.

New question. And thanks for all the help. When crushing. Say 3400 rpm I get a humming noise over top the engine noise. Like a vibrational hum but very little vibration. Seems to come from the starboard side but hard to tell. Also not sure it's related but my starboard engine seems to use a bit more fuel then the port side according to my dash gauges. Is this normal. What can it be. ? Anything I can check easily ?

Carmelo, on my 390 da and now my 40 da it would always look like the starboard side used more fuel on the gages. But, when I filled up they would always be within a gallon or two as long as I had not run the generator which comes off the starboard side tank. Remember that you port tank carries about 15 gallons more than starboard tank to compensate for the weight of the generator.

As far as the noise goes, we need a little more information in order to help. Like speed, load, was it a full moon, etc. You mentioned the rpm does the noise change with rpm. One method I have used on these boats when I thought I might have vibration going on is to look at the cables of the bow rail you can really see them shake when you have vibration.

Thank you so much Gary. That makes a lot of sense now. I would fill and be within gallons and thought it strange. I didn't know the port tank was larger but I suspected that. That answers a lot !

I am taking the boat out for run tomorrow to specifically check out the noise and possible vibration. Thanks for the tip on checking for vibration. I will look for it tomorrow

Carm, Your Welcome.

I was thinking about your query on the noise last weekend as we cruised to South Haven MI. As I settled in at cruising speed I started listening and sure enough I heard what I would call a hum comming from the ER. I looked at the bow rail cables and they were moving slightly with the boat movement over the water but not shaking. We were in about a 6" chop. I believe the hum has always been there even on the 390. Mike from Escapade my chime in on that boat as he owns it now. Hopefully yours is the same.

On another note check my post in the gas engine section of CSR as I posted about some melted wires I found on my starboard engine. You may want to check your engines and avoid what I found.

Gary

No new vibrations on our end. There are times I listen like a dog for what appears to be the admiral with the stereo remote... Something come to mind I'll chime in.

I occasionally hear a vibration on the port side at idle speed. Never got down into the engine room to diagnose further as the boat runs fine with the 'little' QSBs...

A/C Drip Pan Change, anyone complete this on a 2004- 2010 390 / 40 Dancer yet. I clean my orange stipe weekly. The pan under the v-berth is somewhat cleanable and may not be entirely difficult to change. However, The mid cabin unit behind the fridge is going to be a pain. Any suggestions, P/Ns would be greatly appreciated. Also. I'm willing to chip in on bullet for engineer / cost down guy who said, Lets Roll w/ steel condensate pan. All over saving a few bucks!

I found some A/C pan tabs at home depot that claim to reduce pan slime. I'll keep you posted on what my experience is.

Hello Mike,

When the 40 DA was new the mid cabin ac pan was cracked and leaked. I can't help with part numbers as Ser Ray sent me a new pan under warranty and I installed it. The ac unit itself is the same madel as the 390 had I believe. Anyway, the new ac units come with plastic pans. I pulled the fridge, it barley gets past the bottom step and crawled in there and changed the pan. It is not that bad and with the fridge pulled you have enough room to work on it. More room than changing the impellers in the ER. I can't think of the company that makes the ac units but if you contact them you may be able to purchase the new plastic pan.

Two of my three units have had the pan replaced. Looking to do the cockpit unit in the future. What a terrible design/build on behalf of Dometic. I ended-up replacing the mid-cabin unit with a TURBO series and sold the old unit after refurbing it completely and taking care of the rusty pan.

Gary - Gerry-

Do you know if the mid cabin A/C unit is same as the V-Berth unit? It would be nice to order two same pans when I do this. Mike

I'm pretty sure they are different sizes. Vberth is smaller .
