Official 390DA Thread

mine is a 2005 390 with 8.1 gas engines. problems have been CO monitors going off all the time. i have disconnected them when in the slip for long periods of time. had a bad oil pressure sensor and a bad water pressure sensor. also had to replace one of the engine hatch lifts. have 250 hours on the engines and about 550 on the generator.

i have disconnected the CO monitors and now i am getting an alarm in the engine compartment when sitting in the slip with engines off. the rear canvas is on and it is very hot in florida. i just opened the rear door and the beeping stopped. is there a fume alarm in the engine compartment and could the ambient temperature and the fact that it is all closed up be setting off an alarm? if so, where is the alarm so i can shut it off while i am not in florida?

Our neighbors boat just had this happen, the guys stepped onto the boat & the alarm went off, wound up a faulty high water switch. Replaced the switch & all was better. If you have system monitor it should tell you what is setting it off, just have to catch it in the act.

i have another problem. it looks like rainwater is coming in somewhere and collecting in the back bedroom soaking the carpeting. anybody have an idea where it could be coming in? Last year i thought it was one of the starboard portholes but have had that fixed.

Three things to look for. One - How long has it been since your radar and other antennas have been re-calked? You can pop off the side filler panel on either side of the arch. Then run the hose on the hard top. I put paper towel in the bolt opening and it got wet. I assume this could find its way down from there to the floor. A quick calk job and solved.
Second, make sure sump box float switch is not sticking. This in in floor in front of the fridge. Good thing to open up and clean. We run a little sanitizer through shower and bath drains every few weeks.
Lastly, and most difficult, we found water had come in while running in heavy weather through the side vents. Evident on top of batteries and on the starboard fuel tank. What did not go into bulge then moved to front of starboard tank. My guess is that the boat was designed for diesel and the gaser is much lighter thus causing the boat to " Lean " forward a bit. Water that was on top of tank then moved forward. After sitting there a while it worked its way to the floor. No easy fix. We had Starboard tank removed and the area re-glassed. Sea Ray now uses a better baffle to eliminate the waters ability to come in those side vents. Had new baffles added as well. It was a hassle but, we solved it. All dry for now.

The only mod we have done is to replace the Eisenglass but we added u-zips in each panel. The panels are tough to reach and put up and take down so the u-zips makes ventilating the cockpit a breeze (pun intended!).

what are uzips for the eisenglass?

Brutus,

The 2010 is the same boat as your 38. The most annoying issue on this boat has been the CO monitors going off when nothing is generating CO on the boat.
One of my neighbors has a 38 so, one of these days, I will go aboard and check it out.
Happy Boating !!

I have the same boat - always a challenge to work through Sea Ray's ability to confuse an owner on what model they have. They new 390 is the 38. Not sure what the 04-05 model is the equivalent of I am sure a foot or two longer.

Anyway I had the same issue with CO2 monitors...had them all replaced and not one issue since. I have noticed the CO2's being an issue on the same model on another thread. I added rear flood lights and a cockpit flood light...also JL subs with Bose speakers up top facing forward, had to add an amp and volume controls...great for the kids. SAT TV and SIRIUS weather are great. Had a drainage issue with the cockpit air...worked that out with a small pump that will drain the pan. A few other adds but decided to stop spending money and enjoy for a bit.

i have an update on my water leak situation. my son in law just went down to the boat since i am in ca. he found the aft bedroom carpet soaking wet and about 6 inches of water in the bottom after removing the floor hatch in the aft bedroom. i thought the water might be coming in from one of the starboard portholes but they seem tight. i am still looking for where the water might be coming in. however, he noticed that the aft floor well has no drainage hole to the bilge. is that normal? i am worried about torrential rains filling up the floor well while i am gone and no way for it to drain. any ideas?

another problem is my carper is ruined in the aft bedroom due to the water leaks. anybody know where i can get the best deal on replacement carper to match the original?

where did you get the porthole baffles and did you do it yourself? if so, was it easy?

You might look at the water manifold to ensure that all of the connections are tight. In the 390/40 Sundancer that manifold is close to the hote water heater behind the aft bed.

The initial assumption was the water manifold and or water heater. Good idea to check them. The connections are plug in fittings and seemed to be first place they looked evert time we complained. We even tried to chase down if the rub rail was leaking. It proved not to be from either.

In order to replace the baffles, the fiberglass intake top cover must be removed. It is calked and screwed in place. The boat was done under warranty so Sea Ray provided parts and did the labor.

This is a factory manufacturing defect and recommend you trying to resolve w/ Dealer / Sea Ray. Worth a try. Mike

Would you post a picture of your intakes? I have the same boat and have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out how Sea Ray, with all their years of boat building, could design something like the intakes on this boat. Since I am the second owner I don't expect them to do much to fix this situation.

Thanks

We were not the original owners as well. Warrenty was still in effect when we purchased. I'm not at boat till weekend but, when I'm there I'll shoot some picks of the new Baffles.

Inside of the stylish big side bilge vents, Sea Ray put a baffle to reduce / restrict water egress into the bilge area. If my memory serves me right these were 7-8 inches round and had nylon bristle that allowed for air to move through but, trapped and directed water to fall back down. Pics to follow weekend and if P/N available I'll post. Mike

Here is a shot of the new intake grills Sea Ray installed to cease water intrusion. Please note part number clearly visible. Let me know if you have any questions. Mike IMG_1628.jpgIMG_1629.jpg

Thanks for the pics. I have contacted Sea Ray and they sent me to the company that makes them. They are $225.00 a piece. My question is do they work? I get bilge water during a wash let alone rain.

Thanks again.

They eliminated our water intrusion when running in rough seas. We have not noticed any water on top of port side batteries or starboard fuel tank. They are not going to stop a direct hose blast. Last week we had 5 inches of rain in four hours and did see a few quarts of water in bilge. Can not define source. In hindsight I wish they would have designed in a slight angle on the side bilge floor to account for drainage. And or made a baffle to direct water to bilge floor vs. these side raised areas.
